I have one more episode to go, and I have to say, despite my misgivings in the beginning, they've done a good job with this show.

Some of the interpersonal relationship stuff is like the WB's version of Three Body Problem, but the rest has been interesting and enjoyable.

Just finished it.

Book reader, so kind of confused on some things that were changed.

Why do we care Tatiana is back and has a headset in a trailer in the woods?

HATE Ninja girl appearing on TV and in onion knights plane. Way too many psychological thriller vibes for this story.

I can't stand black science man. What a bore.

Hate that the brain thing was the central plot of the last 3 episodes. Just didn't seem THAT important big in the books other than have another awkward incel love story

I’m on episode 3 and liking it. I hear it starts to take off after this point. I did start reading the first book so up to this point a lot of it is coming back to me. However, I never finished so I don’t know when I will be totally out of the loop. I need to find the books and pick them back up. I just had a hard time keeping up with characters because I couldn’t remember the Chinese names and who was who. I’m just a simple white man, I need characters with names like Mark, Susan and Peter.

You can’t deal with this because you’re looking at it from a human perspective and nature as we know it. The rest of the universe is a whole other ballgame. We have no clue.

It's not whether or not I can deal, but it's how nature works. Regardless of which planet. This crap about 'as we know it' has existed for 100's of millions of years well before humans existed. Hell, Earth 250 million yrs ago would seem pretty damn alien to us if we found ourselves in it tomorrow.

Someone explained it to you already. They communicate telepathically and are incapable of lying to each other. It’s not crazy to suggest that a species who evolved in this way might be surprised to find out that another sapient species routinely tells outright falsehoods.

Telepathy is a sci-fi construct. Just SAYING things exist isn't explaining how this makes any sense. Aside from the nonsense of them 'evolving' like this, their planet gets obliterated time and time again. Resetting their civilization AND their ecology. Having to start over, as it were, hardly affronts them the time required to 'evolve' telepathically. And even if they could, they'd only be able to communicate with each other that way. The rest of their animal and plant kingdom wouldn't.

quote:

You’re arguing about it using animals that are incapable of speech (and also happened to evolve in the same ecosystem as us) as evidence, and it’s just.. kind of silly given the context.

Except it isn't. Animals 'communicate', even if they have no formal or structured language. The Trisolarans would know this, even if they communicate differently. They'd see how camouflage and other mimicking abilities help animals survive.

Finishing the last episode now and I’ll have to admit it was a lot better than I expected it to be. Going off the previews and reading a few comments about it, I wasn’t expecting a legit sci-fi series. I’m glad I was wrong about it.

disagree...its important in wrapping up this story if the show ever gets to a finale (which is doubtful as i'm skeptical there will be a season 2)

Expanse was *far* easier to follow. But I can also understand Scouse and people from down the bayou, so maybe it gives me an unfair advantage.

The CCTV trick as well . If they’re not here yet, how can they give her these talents?

The explanation about how they were so advanced but that they were afraid humanity would advance further than them in just 400 years felt a bit flimsy to me. And confusing at times.

Do you read a lot of science fiction? It is a fairly common trope. It is a play on the idea that we are out of control as a species and will be the engineer of our own demise as we are not mature enough to handle our uncontrolled development of weapons/technology. The flip side of that is that our rapid advancement as a species from sticks and stones to nuclear weapons is what will protect us and/or make us seen as a threat from alien species as we aren't mature enough as a species to handle the technology we develop.

Finished it over the past week and having read the books, I thought it was a decent adaptation.

Sophons. It’s how they are able to communicate instantly via quantum entanglement and use their tech on earth

But it was pretty important in the books. It leads to the fairy tale scene in the books, which allows humanity to better understand Trisolaran technology.

I thought she was going to be the character Sophon from the books. But she's obviously human, so I guess not.
