In what world does it make sense to take that guy who will be better in the 20 seconds of the <10% of games that come down to a final shot, than the guy who is going to be better the first 47 minutes in every game.

My favorite is MJ is the best because he's sooooooo clutch.

Really? The guy who is the best to ever play the game for the 1st 47 minutes and 50 seconds is the best in the last 10 seconds? Never saw that coming!!!

If he was drafted by anyone but the Spurs w/ The Admiral, he would've been a center.

Hell, he basically was a center, but they adjusted the scheme/matchups to minimize the beating on his body

A. You could've just said you like Kobe more because he scored more points.

B. What is this 5 vs 3 thing? You do know Duncan won 5 rings, not 3, right?

Only bc he didn't have the balls to play center after Robinson retired. You people act like PF was his natural fit. Duncan didn't want to have to guard Centers. that's the only reason he didn't play center.

The "he's the greatest pf of all time" argument is also stupid bc pf is the least important position in basketball.

Kobe routinely guarded the opponent's best perimeter player. Duncan routinely avoided guarding the opponent's best big man. I'll take Kobe for his heart and determination. Screw Duncan's Charmin softness.

wow what a simple way to look at things.

4 of the 5 categories Kobe won (3pt%, FT%, assists, steals) are almost a given based on Kobe being a SG and Duncan being a PF.

The 5th (points) is easily explained by amount of shots each took. There are way better ways to compare the two.

Gotta keep it simple.

Kobe > Duncan. Better all around player.

Let's look at these categories as well.

Win shares: Duncan > Kobe
Win shares/48: Duncan > Kobe
Box Score Plus/Minus: Duncan > Kobe
VORP: Duncan > Kobe

None of the advanced stats are particularly close. Duncan was the better player.

It's hard to compare the two.

I'd say Kobe, even as an SA fan.

Kobe: Better Scorer, Better Passer, More versatile defender.
Duncan: Better Rebounder.

3 to 1.

Of the 15 players listed, Kobe Bryant's shooting percentage (40%) was below average.

Tim Duncan and LeBron James shot the highest percentage (46%).
Steve Nash was pretty good during the clutch.

5 of the 15 players were assisted on less than 30% of their makes, meaning they created their own shots (most likely isolations). Those players are: Steve Nash (18%), Dwyane Wade (18%), Andre Miller (24%), Kobe Bryant (24%) and LeBron James (24%).

Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Carmelo Anthony all had %ast'd above 50%, meaning their teammates were creating makes for them more often than not.

Tracy McGrady shot the lowest percentage in clutch situations. Why did Andre Miller shoot so many clutch shots?
