Dirk & Terry were 2 of the most clutch. Was the perfect anti-dote for the 1st Heatles Finals/2006 rematch

Kobe without question.
Duncan was never at any point the best player in the game imo. I also remember how he always tried to dodge guarding Shaq during the Lakers' three peat lol

Kobe, and it's not even close. Am I doing this right, MSB?

Looking back at the stats and the season results, I don't know that Kobe ever had one season where he was clearly the best player in the league.

i think he probably was, but it was during those dead years when the lakers were a .500 team.

You mean when he drug a team with frickin Smush Parker as PG to the playoffs at the peak of the loaded West? While the East had an under .500 division winner getting a top 4 seed
Basically, the same narrative LBJ worshippers love to remind us with Boobie Gibson, big Z, etc but worse & in a significantly tougher conference.

Kobe was mj lite at his best.

LeBron still played a part in ending the Pistons' rule of the East in the 2000s. So not really comparable.

he was/is the most similar to MJ that we might ever see. imo, kobe is better than duncan; however i don't have a problem with someone that says otherwise. i do have a problem with someone that says otherwise and that it's not close.

earlier in his career, Duncan was an offensive and defensive force. as he aged, like many, he became less and less mobile. Kobe was an ageless wonder. Sure, he didn't bang down low all game, but he was spectacular until the very end.
all-time, I'd agree that Duncan gets the nod for the more complete player.
Where do y'all think Dirk aligns with the best PFs of all time? Surely, he one of the best if not the best offensive big man of all time. But, he definitely lacked size and speed on the other side.

At least it's no longer the kobe vs Lebron talks

You'd have a better case if he were at least dominating the league in the box scores at that time but he really wasn't. He had his best year in 2005-06. While he had an excellent year, Dirk and Lebron were right there with him, besting him in PER in fact. At the height of his powers he should've crushed everyone statistically but he didn't.
There's not a single year where he was unquestionably the best.

Kobe averaged over 35ppg that year, which i dont think anyone has gotten close to since. even westbrook this year, on a team of nobodies, was under 32ppg.

'03 Duncan won an MVP, was a candidate for DPOTY and led a team with second year-Tony Parker and Stephen Jackson, both below average efficiency scoring threats, as his second and third options to a title while averaging 25/15/5/3 in the playoffs. It's one of the single greatest years for a superstar player ever.
Duncan also has a pretty sizable edge in longevity with 11+ years of elite play. Kobe arguably has the same but he fell off hard starting in '11 (with a bit of a revival in '13) whereas Duncan continued to be a really good player up until his final year.

You don't think Duncan was the best player in the game in 2003 when he won MVP and Finals MVP?

Shaq was still the best player in the league in 03. his decline began the next year.

quote:He won the MVP twice, in back to back years (2002-2003), and won a Championship in 2003 with a finals MVP. He also averaged a PER of 27.0, a BPM of 7.5, and WS per 48 of 0.253, while accumulating a 34.3 win shares and a VORP of 15.6.
Duncan was never at any point the best player in the game imo
Even if you pick and chose 2 seasons Kobe had his best of any of those metrics, he would have trailed Duncan in all but PER, and that would have been essentially a wash.

No
Posted on 5/15/17 at 12:33 pm to David Ricky
quote:That doesn't negate that Duncan had a higher and more sustained peak than Kobe. If another all time great was in his peak with Player A, but not with Player B, that doesn't make sense to hold it against Player A.
No

Longevity if anything favors Kobe. It is really a wash though
