Would Aaron Judge be as big of a deal if he was on a team like Oakland?

He is a beast of a baseball player and come on the scene swinging. That said does the fact he is on the Yankees increase the hype for him? I mean if he was on a small market club like the A's or Rays would he still be getting all the praise and hype? Just wondering what the OT says.

If trump was a real estate tycoon in Lexington KY would he be president?

It's hard to say.

No. He's getting way more hype because he's on the Yankees. I mean, he would be getting admiration for his great season if he were on other teams.

But because he's on the Yankees, they act like homerun record-chasing Barry Bonds is coming to town.

I wish he had a defensive component to add to his play, but he has a slashline of .329/.407/.611, has 28 HR (now 29), leads the MLB in walks, and should get reasonably close to 200 hits this year. He's a hitting savage. Wouldn't surprise me to see him slow down, but he's certainly a worthy MVP winner if he keeps a pace close to his 1st half.

In this specific case, I'd say yes. When have we seen a young slugger of his stature?

1st half season numbers:

avg. .332
hr 29
rbi 65
obp. .449

LINK

With numbers like that it doesn't matter what team he plays for, he'd be getting the same national recognition

Giancarlo Stanton comes to mind.

A lot of attention but not the same. Last year Gary Sanchez was the great, Kevin Maas before them.

ESPN is all over this dudes power and exit velocity stats. Stanton has been displaying freak hits for years, and although gets love from ESPN, not as much as Judge gets.

He would the be a local legend like Ricky Henderson in Nor Cal
Judge may not be from the Bay but Stockton is close enough.
I think he would be a bigger deal locally but not nationally.

He's on pace for a 10 WAR season as a rookie.

The whole SportsCenter special they did the other day on the Judge's seating section in Yankee Stadium was so cringeworthy.

Are you asking if being a good player in the biggest media market on Earth helps him get more publicity and recognition?

Nahhhhh

None of the guys mentioned ever collected ~180 hits and ~50 HRs, while leading the majors in walks, like he will this year. Dude is incredible, and it's not just because of the sick exit velocity stats. Trout is better, but he's also the GOAT, and he's also hurt.

Absolutely. He's a member of the most well-known franchise in not just major league baseball, but maybe all of american professional sports. That absolutely increases his hype. It has to.

The answer is no he wouldn't, but that doesn't matter because he is more than delivering on all of the hype/talk that comes his way

This thread--the topic, not the replies--is terrible.
