That stadium seats 63,132. It's built for football. It's fair to say that you don't believe that you can sell out that many seat due to the fact that there are 15k of those seats in that CF monstrosity. Demand, understandably, would not be high for those 15k.

for baseball it seats 55k with the tarps off.

it can only seat 63k for football games and right now they limit that to 53k.

Nope. Because all the Detroit fans have rolling power outages and couldn't ever completely watch a game...like all the rest of the third world cities.

I watched it last year, I didn't lose power. Try again.

I'm hoping for a Rays-Pirates WS because I love baseball and want to see those teams matched up. DGAF about the ratings.

Again, the Rays are the ONLY team in the postseason without a strong fanbase. They would be the only team Fox would fear

The fanbase is there and pretty strong considering how weak the attendance is, getting people to show up is another story. The Rays in 2013 had the 6th best local TV ratings in MLB according to Sports Business Daily and the Tampa Bay-Sarasota market is the 14th largest in the US.

The issues that get lost to the rest of the country when the talking heads at ESPN and Selig bash Rays attendance are:
1. The Tampa Bay Area has only had a team since '97.
2. That team didn't start significantly winning until '08. (consequently selling out every playoff and World Series game...without tarps).
3. The Bay area is incredibly transient. There are more people here from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and the Northeast, than there are "native" and folks from the southeast region. "So what?" you ask. Well those folks bring with them their loyalties to their "home" teams. Teams with 50-75-100 plus years of traditions. Their home teams that gramps and dad used to take them to the games and listen on the radio with. Their children are born at St. Joe's or Morton Plant hospitals and their first little toddler jumper or cap usually have their"home" team logos on it.

The Trop is not ideal. But it is very serviceable. It is in a poorly chosen location. But the Trop is not THE reason the Rays have poor attendance during the (imo) too long regular season.
