Yes because it was topped three years later by Joe Montana. Here are Joe Montana's numbers against the #1 defense in the NFL.

22-29, 297 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INTs

I believe they were 1st in total but 15-20 in scoring Defense.

You can say they have up a lot of short drives because of turnovers. All I know is Collier's unit got blitzed in multiple Super Bowls.

Nope. #1 in scoring D.

1989 Denver defense:
#3 in total yardage.
#1 in scoring.

1986 Denver defense:
#9 in total yardage.
#13 in scoring.

Simms did it against the #15 total defense, #16 passing defense, and #13 scoring defense.
Montana did it against the #1 total defense, #3 passing defense, and #1 scoring defense.
