I'm not attacking ND, I'm attacking schools dumb enough to hire their failures.

George O'Leary has done pretty well at UCF.

Thank you. This is my point.

ND does have stricter academic requirements than most programs though, I do believe, which leaves some wiggle room in your logic.

You can't count O'Leary. I already said I believe he would have done well at ND.

I'm talking about coaches who got a real chance and proved they suck. Don't hire these people.

He failed because they fired his arse.

Also the academic standards actually would help make the OP's point.

That means when these fired coaches exited ND and ended up at a lower standard school they could finally flourish. However they did not.

So Woody, Bruce, Coop, and Tres all failed also

Luke Fickle succeeded since he wasn't fired

The point is, if my school hires a coach that couldn't win at Notre Dame, I'd be fricking pissed.

What academic requirements does the ex ND coach work with? The Holtz or present day? They changed them for Holtz and then reinstated them.

Washington hiring Willingham made some sense though because he was successful at Stanford before moving up to ND. The others didn't have a track record of success as head coaches. I'm not sure why ND was hiring coordinators (even NFL ones) to begin with

But to answer your question, it's because it's an easy thing to sell for a shitty program. Look at where those coaches landed- all shitty programs aside from UW (see above). Those coaches are relatively big names after having coached at ND and it's an easy way to spike season ticket sales and generate excitement
