Which, I admit, doesn't even matter. I just think Lebron is better, having a better season, doing more for his team, and is more valuable than Curry. I really do.

Golden state. But we are aren't talking about who is the better player. It's lebron. We are talking about who's having the better season. And they are having pretty similar seasons, statistically speaking

True shooting percentage takes FT shooting into consideration? Good lord who gives a frick about that stat then? Curry murders Lebron in FT %. Who cares?

You're about to get yelled at. Because apparently, Curry is having a way better season if you ask the MSB.

I'm being a smartass, and I'm sorry. Not trying to be annoying here. I asked the other day why Curry was WAY ahead of Lebron in the MVP race because I didn't think he should be THAT close....and I got yelled at :/

Seriously, if I say anything retarded just let me know. Or explain it. I don't know that much about it.

Because shooting free throws takes up a possession. If you suck as a free throw shooter, you are wasting possessions.

If you are a great free throw shooter, you are scoring at a very efficient rate.

Free throws matter.

...because he had questionable effort and results the first half of the year, whereas the other MVP candidates didn't?

They were 18-12 on the season at that point.

So take a mediocre team who isn't clicking and take away their best player
so, being on pace for near 50 wins now qualifies as mediocre?

You're doing the same on the other end, fwiw.

But what if you shoot less and average more points than another player? Why would FTs matter THAT much?

Lebron averages more points on a higher %. FT already matter for those numbers. And he's barely behind him in assist. And ahead in rebounds.

But FTs......oh no.

Because Curry is taking nearly 9 three-pointers per game compared to LeBron's 5.

3-pointers are going to be shot at a lower percentage than 2-pointers (in general). And they count towards FG%. Free throws do not count towards FG%. So a player who shoots a lot of 3's can average more points on a lower FG% and yet be more efficient because 3 points is worth more than 2.

True shooting percentage takes into account the fact that 3's are worth more than 2's, and also takes into account free throws.

It's an all-encompassing measure of how efficiently a player is scoring points for his team.

It leads to Curry being more efficient than LeBron this season. Look at their points per shot, Curry leads Lebron due to FT percentage and 3 point percentage. He leads LeBron in pretty much every advanced statistic.

Free throws are a very efficient way of scoring points. Every time a player gets fouled and goes to the line, that takes up a possession.

Let's say a player averages 50% on 2-point shots. Let's also say he's an 80% free throw shooter. Let's say he takes 6 2-point shots a game and also goes to the line 5 times in a game.

If he takes 6 shots at 50%, that's 6 points. If he goes to the line 5 times and shoots 10 free throws at 80%, that's 8 points.

Isn't that calculated already though? If you make it you get more points than Lebron's 2.

But Curry averages less points, on a worse shooting %.

I understand the efficiency. But is it enough to overcome Lebron averaging more points?

His turnovers are definitely up, but the impact he has made on that team is undeniable. Normally when players move to another team and that team shows immediate improvement to this extent they are viewed as MVP material, while Lebron seemingly isn't appreciated in the same way. The Cavs went from the lottery to title favorites, largely from the impact of one player. It's like people expected it to happen because they know how great he is so they're left unsurprised and unimpressed.

No, they went from the first pick to near title favorites because of Love and Mozgov

He scores 2.1 more points, but plays 3.4 more minutes, shoots 1.8 more fgs, and 3.4 more fts. So basically the amount of points that he scores more than Curry is irrelevant because it comes from him playing more minutes and shooting more often.

Curry's per 36 numbers:
25.9 pts, 8.7 ast, 4.7 reb

LeBron's per 36 numbers:
25.6 pts, 7.2 ast, 5.8 reb
