Well why don't we dominate basketball then? And why does the northeast excel at round ball? Kinda pokes holes in all yalls arguments
Urban blacks play basketball. Suburban/rural blacks play football.

You need to add Virginia. The Father of the South

Urban blacks play football too on some levels. Same as rural setting and basketball. Lots of small town basketball teams are powerhouses. And ai and LeBron are examples of great city football players

When plantation owners bought slaves, they bought the biggest and strongest slaves, not average or smaller slaves. Those big, strong male and female slaves procreated other great specimen humans that created a sub-culture of super humans. Naturally, the highest concentration of their descendants would be in the South.

I love basketball, but it really comes down to genetics more than anything. You have to be tall. Sure there are anomalies, but over 90% of the guys playing college and pro ball are 6'2 or over. Less than 4% of the US population is 6'2 or taller. That is just too much of a coincidence to ignore..

You said, "the south."
You designated a region as the most.
Either they are from there or not. This isn't gerrymandering.
The fact is the South has to be the EU...And go per capita.
And include Florida, which is basically all the numbers.
But reality, 6 states together can't even equal Cali or Texas alone without Florida for the NFL.
Facts are facts. You said, produce the most.
Cali and Texas and Florida supply the NFL.
So by basic definition, they are more football.

I'm saying there are more of those physical genetics in the south. Never deal in absolutes

I think it has more to do with climate than any other reason. Outdoor oriented sports such as football and baseball, where kids can improve by picking up a ball, bat, etc...and walking outside to play are easier to bring together in more climate friendly environments. The opportunity to play/practice is there for longer to much longer amounts of time throughout the year. That is why basketball is more evenly distributed as it can be played indoors and outdoors and why hockey is almost exclusively a northern dominated sport. Then as each sport takes off in each region, there becomes a cultural importance attached to it as well which fuels the regional aspects of it.

You cn tell by the numbers on that graph, along with having an idea of state populations, that on a per capita basis LA,AL,GA, and SC all hang with the bigger states.
Those states combined are about 25M people.
They total 268 players.
Go ahead and compare those numbers to TX, FL, and CA. Only FL is close to that rate

California really produces the best athletes ts just spread out across different sport
Posted on 1/1/17 at 9:17 am to VerlanderBEAST
well i'd hope so since it has 40M people or whatever and a wide socio-demographic split

Do you not know how to add?
ETA: But the actual facts are that there is a concentration of higher NFL player producing states in the south east. This trend is obvious and clear. By your own map.
ETA2: 63+60+97=220. 220>187. That is 3, fairly small states, not 6 states together, equaling more than the biggest state in the country.
ETA3: Just looked up that those three combined states have half the population of California.

Probably Ethnicity, weather, and support of athletes in rural or small towns.
Basketball is played in inner cities all year. What other team sports can be played in northern frigid cities.
