Why does the south produce the most football players

It's not like the rest of the country doesn't love football, and it isn't the most populated region by any means. What is it that the south has that allows it to produce so many athletes on the gridiron?

Football is a cultural thing here. Also, genetics due to slavery play a part

Jimmy the Greek summed it up the best.

Essentially the south has more guys who are huge and also agile and fast. It's the D lineman that really separate college football teams.

I don't know how to answer this without getting banned. But there seems to be a preponderance of a certain ethnic group in the South and they tend to be really good at football (LINK )..

Race is a big part of it, but there's obviously a lot more to it. There aren't many inner city Chicago or New York football players. Culture, weather, and tons of open space/land play a big part too. Schools like Depaul and St. John's don't even have football programs now.
