Lots of Massachusetts has a very elitist leftist culture, but there are huge segments of working class Irish and right leaning folks in the state. I believe they just elected a Republican Governor and Mayor of Boston. One of the biggest sports talk shows in Boston is Dennis and Callahan on WEEI in the mornings, it is a very very right leaning show and gets huge ratings because of the aforementioned demographics.
As for all the ethnic named players...well they got a lot of white dudes on their team and Eastern Europe produces a bunch of big strong white dudes...Slavs and Germanic people. Belichick is a Croat, so maybe he likes them, but I strongly doubt Belichick cares what color or ethnicity his players are as long as they're smart, tough, and fit what he wants to do.
The only players I've ever seen him strongly take a liking to is Navy players, because of his association with the Academy. I think he's drafted 2 in the last few drafts. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes Keenan Reynolds late in the draft this year and converts him to a receiver/KR or 3rd down back. Overall, he seems to be very fair, you play good and keep your mouth shut or you get cut, simple as that.

There is a reason teams in the Big 10 have a lot of NFL linemen.
There is more German, Polish, Scandinavian blood there and those ethnicities produce larger men.
In the south, the basic cracker ancestry of Scotch Irish doesn't produce the same massive white guys.
