He's gotta be up there.

I can only think of 2 guys who could guard all 5 positions and do so in a dominant fashion.

Plus you could always tell that he firmly planted himself between the ears of whoever he was guarding.

Jordan was the best on ball perimeter defender ive ever seen. Especially when it mattered.

Maybe in the 80s but once Pippen came in to his own Pippen was a better defender and was the one who usually matched up with the other teams best player

The thing that Lebron does as a defender is he can defend D. Rose then leave no one for Rose to guard on the other end.

That is the true effect of Lebron guarding the smaller and bigger guys.

Lebron is the best at shutting down offensive powerhouses like Tyson Chandler while leaving scrubs like Carmelo Anthony alone.

There are literally, off the top of my head, 3-4 guys Lebron can't consistently defend in the NBA.

Dirk, Chris Paul, Bynum, Dwight Howard.

Thing is no one can consistently defend those guys.

If we're talking right now, you'd be crazy to argue anyone other than Lebron, and he absolutely deserves to be on the all-time list.

I have to assume they didn't want him getting into foul trouble guarding Melo. It also allows him to save energy and provide the roaming help defense everyone likes.

If the Heat didn't have big perimeter guys like Battier to constantly throw at Melo I am sure Lebron would be the primary guy checking him.

If you think Prince could guard all 5 positions as effectively as Rodman or Lebron, prayers sent.

True, if I did, I would know that Blake Griffin is the best wing EVER on the break.

Can we stop with this 5 positions stuff? Rodman and Lebron rarely if ever matched up with centers for more than a possessions during a game.

Most versatile doesn't necessarily equal the best.

Eh.

My initial post picked Rodman,a nd I said he could guard every position in a dominating fashion.

I think when you're that good at each position, like Rodman was, there's a case for him as the GOAT not just because of versatility, but certainly versatility as a factor.
