I have a friend living in Oregon that thoughht that ULL was a branch campus of LSU. He actually thought the name was LSU-Lafayette.

I dig the University of Louisiana name and hope the institution does well in all of their endeavors.
Louisiana Tech and UNO can keep their schools too.

I understand what theyre trying to do. University of Michigan/Michigan St. University of Oklahoma/Oklahoma St. University of Iowa/Iowa St. The problem is with all the other examples, the state is usually the one that is the lesser of the two athletically and historically. In this case, it doesn't work.

In terms of Lafayette media coverage, yes. However, everywhere else, I see them being referred to as ULL, Louisiana-Lafayette and even just Lafayette.

They aren't changing the name of the school. "Louisiana" is being marketed as a brand, especially in sports. There is NO law that says they can't do otherwise. Period. So the school is running with it. "UL", "U of L," and "University of Louisiana" are illegal to use according to state law. But the school itself does not use these terms unless the "Lafayette" goes with it. It is the media and other sources that use "UL," which is perfectly legal as well as the term "Louisiana."
ULM tried to do the same thing about ten years ago in athletics, especially when they had "Louisiana" on their football helmets. They seemed to like to market "ULM" instead and stuck with it.

seriously, if ohio st. and ohio can manage to live in the same house without tearing each other apart, why can't lsu and ul?

Hasn't ESPN used a Lafayette Leopards logo a few times when discussing ULL?
I never hear anything other than ULL or USL, which it seems a lot of people still say.

My guess is because if the UofO won the Papa Johns bowl and OSU lost the National Championship, UofO fans wouldn't say "We had a better season because we won our Bowl game".

I love LSU and I like UL but it's really comical how many shots LSU fans are throwing in this thread. Does it bother you that much that UL is better than LSU at a few sports?
