So I'm just checking, most people in this thread would take Hield #1 in the draft over Simmons? The basketball knowledge in this thread is amazing.

I would agree with you, but now everyone has a feeling a guy like Buddy could be the next Steph Curry. I was thinking it when he hit a couple of insane bombs against Oregon. But, I think Buddy's high side is JJ Redick.

Dude made one three all year. He's on his way to a league that is evolving to almost primarily the three ball.

He's a lot bigger and faster than Redick

Which just means he needs a coach who isn't a buffoon. Simmons career will outlast the 3 point fad

If you think Brice Johnson will be a better pro than Ben Simmons, you are a complete idiot

Buddy Buckets! Simmons disappears at crunch time like in the OU game. He will need to get physically tougher also in the NBA.

Johnson has a certain passion he plays with . He will have an instant impact on any team, as will buddy. Ben is gonna be a work in progress. Ben may end up being the best, but has ALOT of work to do.

One more than Brice Johnson, but it doesn't matter these guys are going to get better at shooting.

IMO Hield has the highest floor and the lowest ceiling. I'd probably go Simmons, Hield, then Johnson, but I like them all.

Or Blake Griffin. Don't know why people act like if they aren't shooting well now, they never will.

My prediction:

This thread will be bumped in December of this year by anyone who chose the guy having the better year.

My other prediction is that Hield will be best early but Simmons takes the top billing by 2018.

Heild is 3 years older than Simmons
Johnson 2 years older

Simmons> Heild year 1 and beyond

Johnson is a fringe bench guy in the NBA unless he bulks up 20-30lb

In a few years Curry/Warriors will decline and you will see 3 point shooting level off and we'll be back to real basketball.

I really wanted to jump on the Ben Simmons train but I honestly am not seeing how his game will translate to success at the next level. It really depends on how much more he can develop and which teams these guys land on.

At the moment, I don't disagree with this statement. However you have to still consider the fact that Simmons is a freshman who has never had to rely on a jumper in his game.

Lets compare Simmons freshman season shooting stats to Hields freshman season shooting stats.

Hield
FG%: .388
2P%: .481
3P%: .238
PPG: 7.8

Simmons
FG%: .560
2P%: .561
3P%: .333 (throw this stat out though, he only shot 3 three pointers)
PPG: 19.2

Now we all know what we saw, simmons can't shoot worth a damn outside the basket, and he really didn't try much so his numbers are a bit skewed for that reason. The overall point however that I am making is that Hield wasn't the great shooter he is now as a freshman. Players can develop a lot with maturity. So I wouldn't be so quick to write off Simmons as never being able to shoot.

What Simmons' numbers do show though is that even without a reliable jumper, he can still be effective and get to the basket. If/when he develops a reliable shot, he will be a force in the association because he is so talented every where else.
