I'd love to be able to say that Miami is a fluke. A down Miami is the best thing for FSU. But that just isn't reality. The city produces too much talent.

It sure does, but IMO, it is only one aspect of a program.
Of course, having it is the biggest piece a program could ever ask to located near, so it will always have that.
However, it is every thing else about Miami as an institution that is messing every thing up for them and that was the case before the 1980s as well.
The problem never was and will never be talent.
The "fluke" was Miami hiring a guy who put them on the map despite all the institutional issues they face. The fluke was being able to find coaches to win despite that/having admins that were at least somewhat agreeable to that. The fluke was building a program without any real connection between students/local fans etc and the university.
That all fell apart the last decade. I'm sure you can say that about any school as well, but I think Miami is different for some of the ways I mentioned previously.

Recruiting has been a disaster. They didn't sign one 5-star last year. If you're a recruiter you can't even walk to your mailbox in Fort Lauderdale without tripping over a 5-star player.
Golden needs to go. I don't know how the facilities look. They probably look terrible or outdated.
Mark May called out guys like Ray Rice and Ed Reed. Basically told them to stop bitching on Twitter and pull your wallet out.

Miami's facilities, administration, and even fans are a joke. 5* recruits don't want to play in an empty stadium. And kids now are too young to have grown up watching "da U".

Well, kids are into the retro thing nowadays. It makes them hipster, right?
See?! There's hope! Not really.

I think he helps my point than hurts it, but most of this discussion is really how you look at a glass of water being half full, half empty.
Basically, anything I type in this little box pertaining to Miami could somewhat apply to other programs, but I think the key differences about Miami outside of its talent area are pretty striking when you compare it to traditional powers.

Why would Ray Rice pull his wallet out for Miami?
Posted on 10/26/15 at 11:04 am to someoldhussy
Because they have more footage of him and his wife?

I don't think he bitched on Twitter, but The Rock probably has enough spare change sitting around that he could give em

No doubt, but like soccerfan said, no one wants to play before empty crowds

Recruits have dicks. Dicks like Miami a lot. Recruits may like Miami.
But...
Ouch

I know nobody here watches the Longhorn Monday press conference but the first question asked to Charlie Strong was "Are you going to take the Miami job". The press and Charlie all laughed for like 30 seconds then Charlie said "I already have the best job in the country."

Miami deserves someone terrible. What's Charlie Weis doing these days?

If you're willing to take someone of equal size, Mark Mangino was just fired.

I really believe it will be Rich Rod.
