I started playing golf with my great-grandfather when I was about 10-11 years old and have been hooked ever since. My best memories are with him at Gonzales Country Club and Pelican Point.
In 2004 my dad took me and my great-grandfather to the Zurich Classic in NOLA and we followed Phil Mickelson all day because he was the biggest name there at the time (glad we did because he ended up shooting 65 that day). At the turn, Phil gave me a huge high five, signed my hat, and gave me his glove.
Phil was seriously one of the most down to earth athletes I've ever met. Something as simple as a high five can make a kid's year and that's exactly what it did for me. He's been my absolute favorite athlete ever since.

Lance Armstrong
It was a level playing field. All the top guys, and most of the rest all doped, and he still dominated. Using PEDs does not keep you upright on a bike. Winning 7 TDFs in a row is a mind-boggling accomplishment.
He had many legendary moments like this:
And how about when Joseba Beloki high-sided and Lance stayed upright:

Off the bike Lance Armstrong is a complete arse of a human being (as are several of our other major sports heroes), but he was a complete bad-arse on a bike.

Roger Staubach
"Roger the Dodger"
One of the last QBs to call his own plays on the field.
The last service academy player to win the Heisman Trophy.
10th round draft choice by the Dallas Cowboys in 1964.
Vietnam vet.
College Football Hall of Fame.
Pro Football Hall of Fame.
My football hero to this day.

Chuck is the #1 guy I would like to play a few rounds of golf with and consume some beverages with after the round.
#1, because even though I haven't touched a club in over 10 years (back problems) I could still kick his butt swinging at 50%
#2, he makes enough money, he could pick up the tabs.

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

This is tough. Either Mario Lemieux or Danny Wuerffel. Maybe Emmitt Smith.
