The first name that comes to mind for me is John Lynch.

So he had a high viscosity like 50 weight motor oil?
Viscous: having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid; having a high viscosity.

Bob Sanders during the 06 playoffs and 07 season
I was just coming to post his name in this thread
He might not be the GOAT or anything, but Manning owes his ring to Sanders getting healthy for their run at the SB.

Dude was 5'8" and put his body on the line every hit with his style of play. Just look at his injury history LINK During his career he played in 49 career games and missed 78. In 8 seasons he only played in more than 6 games in the season twice. One of those times he was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
When he was healthy he made more impact on the field than any safety I've seen.

I definitely agree about Bob Sanders. He's like the Gale Sayers of safeties.
For the total career, I agree with the majority that it's between Lott and Reed.
One name I'm surprised that hasn't come up though (unless I missed it) is Brian Dawkins. Double-digit pro bowls and awesome leader of a really successful team.

The best I have personally watched imo are
1. Troy Polamalu
2. Ed Reed
3. John Lynch
4. Sean Taylor(RIP)
5. Bob Sanders(he used to be my favorite player so maybe Im slightly biased)

Ronnie Lott, he was guaranteed to hit someone every single play.

My bad, missed it.

Reed. I liked Lott as an enforcer, but reed had much better awareness and ball skills.

Ed Reed overall
Troy Polamalu when he lines up on or near the line of scrimmage
Didn't get to see much of Lott because of my age, although I'd say he's the best hitter of them all
ETA: Brian Dawkins was one of my favorite to watch, but I wouldn't put him in the top group

Atwater is also up there on my list, played like a linebacker in skinny man's clothing.
