Sean Taylor is college, maybe. He was a solid pro, but overrated.

Ed Reed is the answer
Ronnie Lott is my 2

Rod Woodson, though he didnt play safety his whole career, would be my #3

My answer is Sean Taylor easily. I am from the younger generation so didn't get to see Ronnie Lott.

I'm not sure off the top of my head. But Atwater comes to mind. The guy had one of the most vicious collisions in NFL history when he collided with Hilliard on the final drive of Super Bowl 32.

People discounting Lott need to check his stats. He was vicious and Lott has 63 career INTs. Ed Reed 64. Not taking anything away from Reed, but Lott is the GOAT

How does this make your point better? Lott played 20 more games than Reed. At least use a stat like tackles to make your point relevant since Lott had about 600 more tackles than Reed.

Lott would be banned from the NFL if he played today. Pretty much everything he did is now illegal.

Which is why he is one of my all time favorite players. Just a viscous hitter.

If you look at the prior responses, I was responding to some who saw Lott and said he was only a hitter and not good in coverage, etc. That's why I cited the INT stats. Lott made game changing hits AND was on par with Ed Reed in INTs, hence Lott is the GOAT

Checkout the 1/2 hour highlight from The Vikes/Raiders SB and tell me Tatum wasn't even a more viscous hitter than Lott.

not the best, but when Roy(Roi?) Williams was in his prime, he could bring the wood with the best of them. Although his position of a run support safety has pretty much been eliminated in todays game

Ed Reed. One of the most electrifying players I've ever watched.

Yes, Lott had a lot of INT's. But I don't think he was as adept at reading QB's like Reed or even a Sharper. QB's in that era were not as advanced as todays QB's were practically every damn one is adept at throwin now.
