He was an assistant at Arizona for several years before he went to Memphis last year. Apparently he was a great recruiter. I think he got some top talent for Zona out of Houston.

Has deep ties to the AAU circuit. Dad a high school/AAU coach in Houston. Hot shot recruiter, up and coming coach. Young and no head coaching experience.

Nice guy. His father is pretty abrasive. Pretty tough to "cut your teeth" with head coaching experience at that level.

I never heard the story explaining why he left or was forced out at Univ of Arizona. I imagine he and others made some sort of power play for Lute's job when he left for his family/ health issues.

Gerry Dinardo could also bring in players. Had a hard time keeping them eligible and drawing up a gameplan.

I guess only time will tell if Josh can manage a game.

I wish I had put some money on this

Pastner's an interesting choice. I was wondering if Arizona was also considering him. He should be able to continue to bring some top talent into Memphis. I guess this means Antigua will have to become a more prominent recruiter for Cal, and if Rod Strickland has a college degree, he may end up as the third assistant.

you aint kidding. As bad as RC Johnson botched this whole deal, they are going to be skewering him for years to come - unless, of course, Pastner pans out.

He was 3 years ahead of me but went to the same high school. I played in his dad's leagues growing up.

I also called him being the next memphis coach last week on this board. I'm about to bump it to show off what a badass with insider info I am. I mean, if nobody else had even heard of him, and I called him being the next coach, that's a mad awesome call, right?

Memphis is on probation soon, there's no doubt about it anymore. Guy is the epitome of what is wrong with college basketball recruiting. Already trying to hire Xavier Henry's dad as the program's director of operations is pretty pathetic.
