Yeah, I can't tell if the people who say that: (1) don't pay attention to college football, or (2) pay attention, but are idiots when it comes to some facts.

ND hasn't fared well in BCS games, but they've been no worse than 10-2 in all of those BCS games. Meanwhile, as you've mentioned, there have been conference champs with 4 or 5 losses in BCS games.

By the way, my predictions for the final 4:

1. Oregon
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. South Carolina

I have no idea, because we don't know the criteria.

That said:

1. Florida State
2. SEC Champ (Bama, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina)
3. Ohio State/Pac12 Champ/Oklahoma
4. Bama or Pac 12 Runner Up/Pac 12 Champ/Ohio State/Oklahoma

-Ohio State and Oklahoma are only chance for Big10 and Big12. Michigan State will not be as good. Rest will be down. OU is only real threat in Big12. If they don't won, conference will not be represented (unless by Texas but that seems unlikely).

They really should reward the two highest seeds with home games.

My ideal option would have been to start the season one week earlier, play the semifinals the same week as the current conference championships at the home of the top two seeds and then have the bowls as they were in the BCS era (with the losers of the semis still going to bowl games). I think that would have been the best way to keep it as traditional as possible but give four teams a shot, and it put a real premium on getting one of those top two seeds to get a home game (not only for the crowd noise, but potentially the weather). Oh well...

I just don't understand the hype surrounding Alabama and a QB that's thrown 36 passes in 3 years.

I think a lot of people had the same questions about Greg McElroy before 2009.

look, i'm tired of Alabama winning too but lets face the facts. Coker will be surrounded by a ton of talent at the skill positions. Experienced RBs and WRs and a few veterans on the O-line.

Christion Jones also gives them an added element in the kick return game and not just on offense.

Oklahoma proved that they have issues with fast pace offenses.

yeah, I was going to say... they lost some leaders on that defense from last year too. Mosley is gone and there really isn't a boat load of experience on that side of the ball this year.

but... they do have great coaching so I'd imagine they'll be in the mix as usual.

Until and unless Baylor can win a major road game, they are never in consideration.

Exhibit A: Oklahoma State 2013
Exhibit B: Texas A&M 2011

Not to pick on this one, but every projection that doesn't have FSU in this playoff means they have 2 losses. If they only have 1 loss, they will be in over any other 1 loss team in the country, as defending champs. The only scenario I see FSU not making it is if they lose a game, and someone else in the ACC wins the ACC because of that, so they are something like 11-1 and not a conference champ

Alabama (probably the SEC champ)
Florida State (talented and schedule is the typical ACC cakewalk)
Oklahoma (best team in the Big XII; basically, they only have to beat Tejas and Okie Lite)
Oregon (toughest call of any of my four teams; Pac 12 is the second best conference in CFB and pretty deep)

In my mind FSU is the only obvious bet to make the final four.

The SEC has some turnover this year with new QBs but the champ should make it unless they have three losses (or are not a name school like USC/Missouri up against Oregon/OU/tOSU/FSU).

PAC has Stanford/Oregon, Big 10 has MSU/tOSU I guess, Big 12 has OU/OkS/Baylor

I don't know who the other three will be, but a 1-6 loss Bama team will surely get a spot.
