Stanford kid had a more impressive catch. But Prothro's was more difficult to maintain control. Push.

stanford catch might have been tougher. prothro had his eyes on the ball the whole time, the stanford kid had his head knocked sideways by the cb and didn't even see the ball as it was coming into his hands

I think the Stanford kid just had the ball miraculously fall in his hands while Prothro actually saw the ball the entire way and made the catch.

Prothro easily because of the amount of fwd momentum at the time and it was way more difficult to remain in control with the front flip over.

If Prothro's hands are truly under that ball, his is more impressive, but I just can't believe there isn't some portion of that ball touching the ground.

Ball can touch the ground if you have control.

You know that, right?

Well, that was going to be my disclaimer that I can't keep straight the rules for continuation/finishing a catch anymore between college/NFL. So, if Prothro's is a trap, I'm going with the Stanford guy.

Prothros easily. Prothro is still in stride and has to contend with forward momentum. He also had to pin the ball on the guys shoulder instead of the back.

Prothro's catch was more skill than luck.

Stanford catch was more luck than skill. although he did get the TD.

both great catches tho.

The Stanford player caught it without looking, FWIW.

Theres usually one catch like this every year, its just that usually it is in like a D2 game or something. You could prob find some other good comparison gifs.

The ball "miraculously" fell into his hands? He's in position staring down the ball and as his face is elbowed aside at the last second he still manages to catch it. That's what I see.
