If Houston somehow beats Ok, they could be a darkhorse.

I guess, but when I see "top 5 recruiting class" and "most players in the NFL" every year, I consider 10-3 and 3rd place in the division disappointing.

This is a simple math problem that you don't understand. 1 team wins the national championship. 1 < 5. Having the top 5 or more accurately in our case consistently top 10 recruiting classes puts us in the conversation for national championship. The other 5 to 10 programs that recruit at a comparable level are also trying to win games. This LSU has so much more superior talent than everyone else thing is a myth. They are in the upper tier. They aren't alone.

Especially when you consider that the division is the by far most competitive division in all of college football. One of those teams that finished ahead close to perennially has the number 1 overall recruiting class and also has arguably the most successful coach in the history of college football. And despite all that LSU is very competitive among the very best in the country. But that isn't enough for you. What you consider disappointing is that LSU doesn't dominate the very best rather than just be competitive.

What this all really comes down to is that LSU hasn't been able to get over the Alabama hump the last few years.

I agree that there's too much hype and that I am not buying into it until I see improvement in the offense, but saying stuff like "Ross is a gimp" is just dumb. Maybe "was a gimp" when he was injured last year. He just ran a 4.25 in the spring. He's one of the fastest and most electric players in the country. In 2014, he was scoring a TD like 20% of the time he had the ball in his hands and must have had 4 or 5 return TDs that were called back from holding, in addition to his 2 that counted. And Browning is plenty tall enough at 6'2" to be a college QB. This isn't the NFL draft

TDAWG - Devon Allen wasn't the same player last year as a football player even though his injury was in January the prior year. He just won the olympic trials in hurdles. Recovering from a knee injury is a problem in football because it's not about running in a straight line free from contact. My guess is the injury will take something away from Ross. Can he get back to the same electric player? Sure. Would I bank on it? Not this year. It's not just Devon Allen but Shane Skov and Kiko Alonso all needed a season to get back to original form after knee injuries.

Also, I am saying Browning is short without looking at his listed height. Prukop is listed at 6'2" and he looks taller than Browning. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that his listed height is seriously inflated and inflating weight/heights is a common practice. It would also be a statistical anomaly to be a championship team with a qb at that height. Teams with qb slike Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Cardale Jones, and Jake Coker win championships. Browning isn't even a dual threat to compensate.

Fact is that your trio of top skill players in Gaskin, Browning and Ross with a offensive linemen that go 280-290 (with the exception of a couple guys) are at an inherit deficit. Teams with that makeup don't win championships. As a duck fan, I believe I have authority on this subject.

I don't think anyone out west is good enough

Don't sleep on Utah. They will have the best trenches in the league. They lost practically all their skill guys, so it's easy to overlook. However, their best skill players were oft injured Travis Wilson, Booker who didn't finish, and a 5'8" true frosh WR.

It will come down to how good Troy Williams is at qb. They will be tough to score. The fact that the get USC, Oregon and Washington at home is a big factor to me too. It's a good schedule.

Picked up a lot of chicks in that Ferrari, most of them were uglies.

LSU has won a lot of games, but with arguably the best overall talent year in and out, has 2007 to show for it.

Seems like Fudd against BAMA, plays well, but little to show.

Everyone is picking OU in the Big 12 but I'd be scared of Oklahoma State. They are getting little to no attention this offseason. They return a lot of guys and they were in the Sugar Bowl last year. Okie State is gonna surprise a lot of people this year. Watch out

I just looked looked at Phil Steele's returning OL, tackles and yards to see who I might be overlooking. This was my conclusion. Okie State is a darkhorse team. If they can improve on defense by a touchdown per game, they win that division.

I am not enamored with TCU. Oregon shredded that team until they lost Adams. They don't have an athletic defense and their top two qbs and WR are gone.

The more I look at the landscape of CFB, it's going to be one helluva year. I don't see one traditionally elite team that doesn't have some huge question marks.

Ultimately if I had to pick the 4 playoff teams, I am going with Clemson, Bama, Michigan and Houston/Okie ST. I think that fourth one will be determined by the Houston/OU outcome.

ETA: I think this is the year a midmajor can sneak in with the PAC/Big/Big 12 not having a strong field.

This might be the year we see two teams from the same conference or a darkhorse (Houston).

How do they continue to have disappointing seasons

Disappointing according to who? Lsu has finished top 16 in 9 of Miles' 11 seasons.
Eveyone knew our 2014 &2015 seasons were gonna be a little below expectations because of our turnover.

LSU has the second most players in the NFL. How do they continue to have disappointing seasons

And? Outside of Saban and Meyer, what coach has achieved more than Miles at lsu?
Since he was hired no program has beaten more ranked teams and no program has been ranked in the top 25 more weeks.

quote:

know he is partly responsible for that incredible talent, but would it hurt to win some more games with those players?

What? Since his hire lsu is 2nd,amongst p5 programs, in wins. He has the highest win %in lsu history. Are you really saying you expect more out of a coach than having the best tenure in school history? You expect more than the best tenure ever at a top 10-12 alltime program?

I love when posters like you destroy your own argument.
SABAN'S TENURE AT LSU=16 losses 12 conf losses
MILES' LAST 5 YEARS THAT POSTERS LIKE YOU LOVE TO shite ON=15 losses 12 conf losses.
So please let me in on the math youre using to show Miles inherited a Ferrari.
He inherited a program with 1 top 5 finish in over 2 decades.
He inherited a program that lost less than 3 games ONCE in the previous coach's tenure.
quote:

Picked up a lot of chicks in that Ferrari, most of them were uglies.

This is just dumb. He has the 7th best win % in sec history and he achieved that win % during the most dominant era of sec football ever.

We dont have the best talent year in and year out.

So what. Stop acting like lsu shoukd throttle Florida.

Yup. We lost a lot of players. More than most in college football.

Miles is A great coach. Kinda goofy at times but his job is not easy.

I didn't know this. That's A pretty good feat. I don't understand how people are so critical of him. I think Mac Brown had like 10 seasons with 10+ wins in a row and only won 1 national title. People think he is a joke. I just don't get it.

Its because he isnt Saban. Saban goes to bama and put on this unheard of run and lsu fans think the only thing seperating LSU and Bama is Miles.
They think Miles is the only thing holding lsu back from having a run like Saban is having at bama.

LSU should just hire a good coach like Bob Stoops.

The worst thing that could ever happen to LSU happened. They tasted success with the greatest coach in college football, who just so happenes to now coach in the same conference and in the same division.

The what could have been had he stayed or tasted success in the NFL is saddening when you think about it.

LSU has done great regardless and that credit is to miles.

We dont have the best recruiter of all time( saban) and up until recently we didnt spend as much as bama did on recruiting and other things. One thing you can say about Bama is they never say no to something they deem will be a positive toward the program. A few years back bama was spending 8 times what lsu did on recruiting.
Also, if Miles is supposedly what's holding lsu back then why has he had the best tenure in lsu history?

With Les at the helm, I can easily see this team falling way short of expectations. I think 10-2 is the ceiling for this team.

That said, LSU will NOT lose to Wiaconsin.

I agree, but Miles has a way of letting inferior opponents hang around.
