Take Drew Brees off the Saints.

Take Peyton Manning off the Broncos.

And assuming each is replaced with the same average quarterback, which team is better/worse, and why.

I still think the Broncos are a playoff team with an average qb. As for the Saints, i'm not so sure.

What's your take?

Most years, I would agree with you.

That Saints defense is fantastic. I think they'll take a slight step back, but still be a top 5-7 kinda defense this year.

Yes they would both compete.

this looks like the start to a 'Brees should be MVP' thread

I'll go with Denver as the better team.

No disrespect to the rest of the Saints team, but Brees is so important to our offense, I do not even want to think of him not running it.

Also, Denver, IMHO, is in an easier division.

This is tough. Broncos have better skill position guys to pick up the slack, but the Saints have a better defense.

It is hard to say. the D-line of saints is better. But as a whole, i think broncos is better.

Brees is closer to a system quarterback than Manning is.

Saints defense shite the bed maybe once or twice last year. Offense sputtered a lot more than their #s show (A lot more 3 and outs than usual in the CSP era) and if you put Alex Smith on the team, they still get more wins than atlanta imo.

Denver got hit bad with injuries on their defense and the offensive players looked vastly better since Manning got there (Look at Decker and Thomas' numbers before) and the run game has more lanes. Every OL benefits from Manning's quick release as well. Take away Manning and put in Alex Smith, they fall way...way down. That defense was pretty horrid.

Both teams would be average at best, but the Saints have better coaching, so I think that would give them the edge.

i think with Sean Payton the Saints would still get "good" QB play. Remember how many picks Brees threw when Sean was suspended? And while he was pretty good in San Diego he was nothing like what he has been with SP.

so, to answer your question, the Broncos would be worse.

Sean Payton is among the most brilliant offensive minds in the game, AND he can handle the stress of running an entire organization. That is nothing short of amazing.

Exactly what I mean in my post.

The Saints have a better defense and better coaching. If things continue as they did once Armstead replaced Charlie Brown, they'll have a better running game. Broncos would be worse off. So if the two teams finish the season with similar records and they have similar stats, then yes, Manning deserves the MVP over Brees. Of course Brees deserved it over Manning in 2009 (especially if they made the decision AFTER the postseason), but whatever.

Broncos made it to the playoffs the year before with Tim fricking Tebow at the helm.

Yeah... With an 8-8 record. And they lucked in the playoffs after losing 3 straight to close out the season.

And to answer the OP... Not sure. Denver has the better skill players in Thomas, J Thomas, and Welker. But Saints have Graham, which counts for a lot. But give the edge to Denver on offense. Saints have a much better D. Were top 5 last year and they got better in the offseason. Saints have the advantage with coaching.

I think the Saints would be better. Sean Payton and Rob Ryan are the tipping point for me.

Know how I know you're retarded?

I love how all you idiots will argue that Peyton is the GOAT...but at the same time his team without him would be better than a Bress-less saints at the same time.

Not so sure. Remember in 09 when CSP started taking Drew out of games at the end of the season. As soon as Drew was out our offense would sputter badly.
