Definitely boxing. I can go HAM in a 60 minute bag class. But three 5 minute sparring rounds & I'm fricking toast. Halfway through the third round I'm literally on manual control, like telling myself what to do bc my body gives out. (Yes, my coach is a little crazy & makes me do 5mins.) It's by far the most difficult thing I've ever done, and I have a background in wrestling

I have a background in wrestling too. I've done MMA for over a decade, which includes a ton of boxing. Wrestling still takes the cake as far as exhaustion goes...for me, anyway.

Someone mentioned BJJ earlier. That can be exhausting, but you can also take a lot of rests while rolling, so wrestling still gets the nod from me.

Forgot about boxing. I have never done it, but can only imagine how tiring that is.
Have you never been in a fight? Or a fairly serious wrestling match with a friend?

3 minutes in and you're dead. And can barely move your arms.

Tennis can be 4 or 5 hours without a lot of breaks

Basketball is only 2 hours

Football and baseball have 30 minutes or less of actual action spread over 3 hours.

soccer. That is a big field with a lot of running and no TV timeouts.

Water polo is the hardest sport I ever attempted. They made us play at Navy OCS. You sprint-swim the length of the pool, then intermittently tread water and jump out to shoot or block shots, then sprint-swim back to the other end. Water's too deep to touch the bottom and you're not allowed to touch the side, so there's no resting at all...

First answer would probably be mma. The stamina it takes to fight all out for lengthy periods while maintaining the focus to protect yourself is crazy.

Second answer is middie in lacrosse. It's basically sprinting up and down the field, especially if you're on a shitty team. Soccer and hockey are both up there as well.

Have to rule out football for the short time each play takes, having a rest between, and only being on the field for half the game.

In the back of my mind I have always thought that water polo had to be the most grueling sport ever for the reasons you listed.
