Yeah, Shaq in his prime was a complete game changer. Lots of teams tried to run on them but he just pounded and dominated and wore them down. Unbelievable.

This Spurs team was a beauty to watch, though. I loved the 2008 Celtics, but they would bog down offensively at times in a frustrating way. This Spurs team would have beaten that team.

But, the 2000-2001 Lakers against this Spurs team would be amazing to watch in every respect.

This Spurs team was great but unremarkable until the finals. Then they turned on a switch and would have been hard to beat by anyone the way they were playing.

truth, I didn't really point this out but that's what he would do. i don't think well ever see someone who was that dominant ever

That is the one thing that worries me about this Spurs team is how they would've handled an elite rim protector that could clog the paint.

2001 Lakers: People talk about how Jordan would dominate today's era, but Shaq would be even more dominant. He dominated Dikembe Mutombo in that year's final. Kobe was coming into his own and this team had underrated depth. The inside/outside threat (add in Derek Fisher, Robert Horry and Rick Fox) would be too much for anyone.

2014 Spurs: This year's Western Conference was as loaded as ever. Put that team in the East and they finish with 65-67 wins and considerably fewer losses in the postseason.

2009 Lakers: I give them a slight advantage over the '08 Celtics because Bynum was hurt in the 2008 Finals. I think this is the most underrated "great team" of the past 20 years. Kobe with Gasol, Odom and Bynum all doing work inside were strong.

2008 Celtics: Great team, but they didn't exactly dominate too much in the postseason like the three teams above did. They were taken to seven by Atlanta and Cleveland. Credit to the game 6 win against LAL, though.

Those are the top four IMO. I think the '13 Heat, '07 Spurs and the '00 Lakers have an argument for the fifth spot.

2014 spurs I would say are a top 10 team of all time.

01 Lakers would have won against this Spurs team. Would have had no answer for Shaq and because of that Kobe would be killing them too.
The Spurs would score on them, and all games would probably go into the 100s for both teams, but the Lakers would win in 6 IMO.

09 Lakers played against a no Perkins for the last few games to guard Bynum. And they still had to have a 4th quarter come back (and some whistle help) to win.

Its hard to say but this Spurs team reminds me of the 80's Lakers and Celtics. Complete teams that were totally unselfish. Winning was the only goal, no one gave a shite who the star was on a particular night.

I think the Spurs' depth would have caught up with those lakers. It'd be one of those games where shaq and kobe would each have 30 plus, but when you look up at the scoreboard midway through the 4th quarter, it's a 4 point game and SA has fresh shooters checking in.

Can't agree with the 07 Spurs. Mavs were definitely better that year, and PHX probably rings if SA doesn't just flat have their number.

Of all the Spurs' title teams, the 07 squad was the least likely. The 13 Spurs were world's better.

this spur team may have more depth, but that laker team is deep enough to play with a prime shaq and kobe who was putting up something like 29 pts a game that year. im feeling pretty good about the 2001 laker team playing this year spurs team. shaq would be too much just like he would be for everyone else
