Advertisers want to promote on programs that are socially safe. Nobody wants to spend ad dollars on something, only to get accused of racism/sexism/whateverism later.
The fear of being sued and the fear of being labelled are two corrosive, cancerous concerns for media companies.

Where have you been? Bruce Jenner got a courage award for dressing in drag. That's peak stupidity right there.

When they hired Chris Berman decades ago-- arguably even Bob Ley.
Left-wing ESPN is nothing new. It was more subtle, sure-- Olberman wasn't given a full platform to be himself, but the politics would shine through at times-- but they have never been much in the way of a balanced or politically neutral network.

Pretty much when the time fired Limbaugh was the first public evidence of the shift.
Irvin and Jackson were somewhat on board with his point about media investment in success of black quarterbacks when originally stated, but once the outrage police (1st generation SJWS) lost their shite, they backtracked.

No, they hate a lot of what right-wing socialists claim America is about, but isn't.

Always was. They just haven't been overt about it until after Obama was elected.
But the bias has been there. They've always focused on Boston, Chicago, NY and LA. Noticed since 94

Here's what gets my goat. The other networks aren't even trying!!! I got up this morning at 6:00, and not a single one of the other network sports channels have a news type program on. Skateboarding on FS1! wtf.

Turn to ESPN now. Marc Lamont Hill is on giving his thoughts on the Kaepernick controversy.
He's as big of a lefty and race baiter as they come.

Easy off the top of my head:
1) when they started interjecting race and social issues into every story and show
2) when they started over paying for content and driving up the cost on cable bills
3) when they started jamming soccer down our throats
4) when they started showing the WNBA as though anyone other than the player's families gives a frick.
