I loved the Chris Heren story too, but I didn't think it was a 30f30. Thought it was just an ESPN films special during the 30 for 30 layoff.

It was a 30 for 30. I watch it from time to time on Netflix. Awesome story.

Can't believe only one person has said Four Days in October. I'm not the biggest baseball fan and I certainly don't like the Red Sox, but the way Bill Simmons and that other guy told the story was fantastic. And they had all that home footage.

Hooray. Another Bo Jackson fap thread.

So because someone first responded with this, everyone eschewed from listing it as their favorite?

My favorite: You Don't Know Bo

Suck it!

The U is just a fan video. It's everything the series isn't: an uncritical fanboy apologia for his favorite team, with no actual story or analysis. I actually judge people who say its their favorite. Either they are big Miami fans or they just have lousy taste in movies.

Agreed. I actually do like The U 30f30, but for different reasons than other 30f30s. Like you said, it's basically just a fan video. Also, how can that one be someone's favorite when there's WAAAAY too much Luke in it? Luther Campbell's clips in that doc straight up mock the NCAA in the open.

There are some episodes I haven't seen that I wanted to, but I like most of the ones listed. Picking a favorite is tough, but off the top of my head I think I might choose Once Brothers.

I like the U as well, but I acknowledge it wasn't the most interesting story.

The U was like a popcorn flick - entertaining but not a ton of substance.

I like most of the 30 for 30s that play to my nostalgia - ie Reggie Miller, Bo Jackson, etc. I grew up watching them play.

Some of the "before my time" 30 for 30s are good too because I'm learning something, but I can't relate as much.

It wasn't actually a 30 for 30. It was during 2011, and was just an ESPN documentary listed under their "ESPN Films" series, by the producers of 30 for 30.

quote:

What if I told you a movie could change the way you look at sports? From the producers of 30 for 30, ESPN Films presents a new series. Every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. "Unguarded" The story of Chris Herren premieres November 1st of 2011

This is the complete list of all the actual 30 for 30's

The last one from the original 30 or season 1 if you will, was "Pony Excess" premiering in December of 2010. In 2011 they had a spin off series called "ESPN Films Presents" including Unguarded, The Fab 5, The Dotted Line, Roll Tide/War Eagle, The Maronivich Project, The Announcement(Magic Johnson HIV) etc. There were like 10 more, but none of these were officially 30 for 30's.

Now there is a season 2 of 30 for 30 and they're in that link I provided, starting back up in 2012 with "Broke" the one where all the famous ex athletes tried justifying how fricking stupid they are with money.

Just wanted to be clear with this, although it's kind of splitting hairs.

The Bo Jackson one sticks out because of what he never became. I think Mike Greenberg said it best when he said something to the effect of "he might have been the best athlete ever, but he didn't put anything lasting together, he doesn't hold any records, so unless you saw him play there's really no reason to ever come across him". A once in a lifetime talent will be forgotten, and I think that's what makes his story the best

Just because Bo Jackson is not going to get into a Hall of Fame, dose not mean he will be "forgotten."

Although, I liked his 30 for 30 flick okay, people were going to still remember him without it.

Wasn't The U the first one that aired?

I think that has a lot to do with its notoriety.

No, like the 4th or 5th. I know the Colts Band and USFL were before it. Both were much better.

The U was on a Saturday night and had a ton of hype but it was OK at best.

Gotcha, yea maybe that one had just been hyped up a bunch. I do remember the USFL one now that you say that.
