Yea, didn't think about that. Just heard that reasoning a while back and it made sense

Does raising the floor 3 feet really create a better sight line from the upper deck

Way back in the 30's go look it up there's pictures.

Also but not really sure if right it used to be whoever got ball first after an out of bounds pass had possession so it kept the fans safe from fights and fans from getting involved.

I heard that from Coach Sam once during a road trip.

In the case of the Final Four, the reason for the elevated court, which sits 27 inches off the floor, is both aesthetic and financial. There's an obvious challenge to staging a basketball game, with its 4,700 square feet of court, on a space designed for a football field, with its 45,000 square feet. Seat rows in the Georgia Dome and similar gargantuan arenas aren't designed to slope to what would, in effect, be the 35-yard-line on each side of the field. So while most court arrangements in domes force the NCAA to use only half the arena (as happened last year in the regional final in the Georgia Dome), the elevated court allows the NCAA to situate the court in the center of the arena and sell thousands more tickets.

No they didn't they had an ugly court though. The Buff was crayon colored then they went to triangles on side in late 90's.

You don't hear it anymore, but I remember 'Cage scores', 'Cage notes' in the newspapers.

And yes, way back in the day, courts had a cage around them.

I'm 53, for the record.

Did yall really think they were just going to lay some plywood out over the soft grass field?
