2011 went from being the best year in Louisiana sports history to the absolute worst.

2012 USC started the season ranked #1. Finished unranked. It was the beginning of the end for Kiffin.

2012-13 Kentucky was preseason #3 and got bounced by Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT

Seems hard for professional teams to be a disappointment as there is so much parity in the leagues. I'd say some of the Yankees teams in the 2000's and recent editions of the Dodgers or Red Sox. In baseball, a payroll can justify high expectations.

In CFB it has to be UT 2010. Just coming off a national title game and ranked #5 in the preseason, they proceed to go...
5-7.
And from there they started the real decline. From a top 5 team of all time to perpetual losers for 7 years and counting.

Buffalo Bills 4 straight super bowls loses

The year the Saints lost to the 49ers in the divisional round (2012). That hurt worse than any loss I've ever experienced as a fan. We win that game we win the super bowl. The Saints were the best team in football that year. What a choke job.

Funny, I actually thought of them when I opened the thread.
They were a trendy NC pick going into '99, but that opening weekend in Happy Valley buried them for the rest of the season.

who said Duke was a clear favorite.
They were, before the season started.
Before this tournament, we knew they were flawed, there were injuries to key players, and one of their best players was a head case and the coach missed a major slice of the season back when the best player was losing it on the court.

How bout 1998 Arizona basketball? Return their entire national championship team only to lose by 25 to 7th seed Utah in the regionals.

2001 Seattle Mariners not winning or even making the World Series
And they lost 4-1 in the ALCS...
And to top it off, they had to lose to the fricking Yankees.
2007-2008 UCLA basketball (pre-season #2) - eventual #1 NCAA seed, 38-3, Russel Westbrook, Darren Collison, Kevin Love.
But got blown out by Memphis in the Final Four - who then vacated their NCAA wins. What could have been...I think UCLA beats that Kansas team but Memphis was a bad matchup.

that is not even in the top 100 of disappointing teams of all time.
they got to the super bowl, which is a great accomplishment even once.
two of the losses were by a field goal hitting the upright. that is not a disappointing team. 19" to the right and they win two super bowls.

The most disappointing team of all time is a preseason number 2 who got a 1 seed and made the final four?

That was probably the best Saints team ever

Anyone mentioned the undefeated UNLV team that lost to Duke in the semi?
1983 Nebraska -- acclaimed as tGOAT, and subject of a few "Could they play in the NFL?" articles. Would have been national champions but Tom Osborne went for two against Miami in the bowl game -- the Worst Coaching Decision Of All Time.

2005 or 2008 Tennessee
I can't remember which right now but one of them was preseason top 5 and finished 5-7. Think it was 2005
Just for giggles, 2008 team lost in Neyland to Wyoming
I'm gonna start drinking now
