two of the losses were by a field goal hitting the upright. that is not a disappointing team. 19" to the right and they win two super bowls.
Wrong.
'90 was Norwood's wide right (that was a clean miss)
'91 was a blowout
'92 was a huge blowout (and would've been the highest scoring SB by the winner had Leon Lett not showboated)
'93 the Bills were outscored by the Cowboys 24-0 in the second half to lose 30-13

Shocked nobody has mentioned the LSU hoops team with Shaq and CJ that didn't even make the final 4 with two top 5 players at the time

2001 Seattle Mariners not winning or even making the World Series. 116 regular season wins, and led the majors in runs scored, and fewest runs allowed.
This x1000
It'd be like if the 07 undefeated Pat's lost 27-3 at home in the divisional round with the record setting offense they had that year

I can't remember which right now but one of them was preseason top 5 and finished 5-7. Think it was 2005
Yeah it was 2005

Villanova was far more disappointing.
In terms of NCAA basketball recently:
2010 Kansas
2015 Nova
2016 Michigan St
2012 Mizzou
2012 Duke
There are plenty

2012 USC is way up there. Preseason #1, proceeded to go 7-6 including a loss to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl and finished unranked.
Matt Barkley was a leading Heisman candidate after he decided to come back for the 2012 season. He went from being a 1st round lock in 2012 to a 4th round pick in 2013. That was an epic fail in and of itself, and the team demise was glorious.

With Duke losing in the second round after being the clear favorites to win the championship
What? They've had an pretty disappointing year. Their run in the ACC tourney is the only reason anyone had them advancing very far, but most knew that they'd probably remember they were 2017 Duke and shite the bed exactly like they did. I didn't see a lot of people saying they were stunned at Duke's loss.

No way duke was the clear favorite to win this year if they were they shouldn't have been.

2003 Auburn.
Set themselves up to get left out in 04, especially getting smoked by USC at home

Personally: Thunder in 2013 for the postseason. Best record in the West then Westbrook gets his knee shredded by Beverly in the 1st round. Lose to Memphis in round 2

Meh. The preseason ranking with Kiff's team was poppycock - team was still on scholarship sanctions...that team was never really good to begin with so how can they be disappointing.
2008 USC is the answer. USC was #1 in week 1, 2, 3, 4...then dropped to #9 after a shocking loss in Corvallis 27-21 after beating #5 Ohio State 35-3...and could never climb back higher in the polls above #5 despite a defense that led the nation.
11 players were drafted in that year's NFL draft. That team finished #2 in the coaches poll but absolutely should have played Florida.

We were still coached by Mike Dubose though.
Amazing that he beat Spurrier twice in one year, thus why I don't put him in the same hemisphere as Saban.

2003-04 Lakers deserve a shout out. They got Malone and Payton, but got ground down by Detroit in the finals in a mere 5 games. It was kind of shocking.

The 06 Chargers went 14-2 (both losses were on the road by single digits to playoff teams) and had 11 Pro Bowlers but pulled an all-time choke against the Pats.
