well fwiw, i believe the 290 thing

a solid 3wood strike for me between 280-290, but my driver can get 300 - 315 on a super solid strike and depending on wind and fairway conditions has been know to go significantly farther...although I have a tendency to play a draw, 290 with a high fade is monstrous with a 3wood

So I dont have a gap problem, i just simply rarely find myself in a situation where i find I need to hit a club 290 yards especially because i am just as consistent with my driver as any wood

Part of the problem is I grew up playing with no fairway wood and actually used a 2 iron because i was able to get enough loft with it to hold a green so until i switch back to the fairway woods i wont be as consistent as i would like

I am about to buy an entirely new set because, my equipment although still good is not as good as it could be and I think I am going to drop the 2 iron for a fairway wood. The 2 iron can get me a solid 250-255 yards (just rarely any instances to use it), but my gap is for that 270-275 range...that is the range i am looking for on the tee when i dont hit driver, i am very consistent with the driver so when I dont hit it, it is because there is some sort of hazard or perhaps a danger of hitting it through the fairway...and in those instances often times 280 or 290 is just as bad as 300 or 310...who knows, i may keep a 2iron as well and just switch clubs depending on the course

For you I would ask, is your driver more outdated than your Fairway woods? I would then look towards the shaft in my driver and the loft as well...you could also get your fairway woods loft change....you can get that 3 wood you have made into a 4 wood even

I actually believe you that you have hit it 290 before...but you said that you AVERAGE 290 with it...that I have a hard time believing...

This times infinity.

A small percentage of pros average 290+ off the tee. And that is with a driver.

Well that's the average of step up and rip it shot off the tee. Not the average of every time that club is swung. There are a lot of times there is a choke fade in there that is obviously considerably less than 290. I didn't include that in the "average" BC the point of the thread was about a gap issue of good strikes from both the driver and three wood.

I had the same problem when I got the Rocketballz clubs. I dropped the 3 wood and bought a RBZ 5 wood and a 4 hybrid to manage the gap.

i fricking hate hybrids...i can hit a 2iron all day but put a hybrid in my hand and you might as well be telling me to swing a belt

That is what AVERAGE is, which you said it was...

...and I know what the point was, your driver sucks, and your 3W is awesome, I get that. But ( and that is a BIG BUT) something is fishy now that you are starting to re neg your story saying you don't always hit it that hard, or it only goes that far if I take a healthy rip at it.

an average is the distance that you hit the ball every time!

Well this may sound crazy but the driver is not the problem. The 3 wood is just averaging about 290 off the tee. And yea yea, I know, I'm lying and that's bull shite and all that. My swing speed with a driver is about 118-120. And I'm not bragging because I have some serious problems with my game. just distance off the tee isn't one of them. But why hit a 3 wood when it is basically a driver with a different head. it is a RBZ tour 14.5 by the way. And 5 yards gap is a tad exaggerated, But the point is the same. I just want a bigger gap between the two clubs.

Why hit a 3 wood???? Because generally it is much more accurate (the shorter shaft leads to greater accuracy). The question is why hit a driver if the 3 wood is getting you 290?

I guess I may have over reacted the other day when I hit a driver and three wood off the sane tee and the three wood went further. And no I'm not back tracking. I was going with an approach similar to if a pitcher averages 85 you don't factor in his curve balls and change ups because the intention was not to throw hard. Similar to the intention not to hit it as far on some swings. Didn't mean to be confusing.

Driver is weakest club in my bag. I'm a 4 handicap and gaurentee you the worst most inconsuisatnt player known to man with driver in my hand. So furstratiing not to be able to hit that club with the consistency I can with irons. I may park it for a while and work on the 3 wood. Idk... Sucks.

this was me towards the end of last year. started taking my 3-wood off since it gets the job done well enough. driver gets me in too much trouble.

I'd be below a 5 HDCP if I was accurate off the tee. I can't figure it out either...
