It's so funny the way perception changes. If you were a player in the 90's and did that, you were a hardnosed, tough SOB who didn't take any shite. If you did that now you'd be a thug POS. Can you imagine if someone gave an infielder a forearm shiver like that?
Also, people wanna talk about how tough everyone was back in the day, but that team he punked was a bunch of bitches. There's not a single team now who wouldn't have started a full-on brawl if a player did that.

Top 5 hitter maybe. Bonds is the clear #1 and Thomas is the clear #2 then you've got Piazza Martinez Mcgwire Sosa Walker and Bagwell
In whatever order, Griffey, Bonds, and Maddux are the top 3 players in the 90s.

That's why writers and fans should not have votes. Media hold grudges and play favorites, regardless of how well he did on the field. They pretend to be unbiased, but that's BS. See it time and again.
He performed far better than Mo Vaughn in nearly every single statistic tracked.

I don't remember anything specific but I'm pretty sure Vina was a pretty hated little shite also. Shouldn't have stood on the train tracks.

I agree with this..... But Thomas and Belle are right there.

Your favorite player was Ryan Klesko

He was so awesome. That 95 team was such a joy to watch. I don't think I knew anyone at the time that didn't like watching that team.

You mean the fielder who was trying to tag him out and had already fielded the ball? Try again, Gump.

Yep, Omar career fielding percentage of .972 vs Ozzie's .966.
I think Ozzie is the more popular choice because he got so much more coverage than Omar got playing in Cleveland. Ozzie's back flips probably helped him a bit for popularity too. Ozzie had the better arm but Omar the better hitter ( but we're not talking about that).
For fielding percentage and theatrics, nobody comes close to Omar Visquel.

Omar still had a higher fielding percentage at 985. LINK
Ok... NOW compare them In the games they both played on that plastic grass Smith played every home game on..... Its MUCH harder to play on that plastic stuff than grass... FACT............

Omar Visquel
Ozzie Smith stats
Hit the link to see the source. It's a razor thin difference between these two.
Slickest---Omar by a large margin. I've seen him field behind his back, between his legs, bare handed, field and throw with his gloved hand and all in live MLB games.
No back flips though, but I don't think Ozzie did that in the midst of a live ball.
Both of them are rare talents.

There is some serious disrespect being thrown at Tony Gwynn in this thread...
He batted .394 with a .454 OBP with 19 strikeouts in 419 ABs in 1995

Omars lowest Fielding percentage at Seattle was .971 which is comparable to Ozzie's career number of .972. Interdasting.

No, the players now would retreat to their safe spaces with their thumb in their mouth. You better be able to take a hit in any sport if you played during that era.
