Holding out for $20M+ annually LINK

Von Miller - LB - Broncos NFL Network’s James Palmer confirms franchise-tagged OLB Von Miller has turned down the Broncos’ six-year, $114.5 million offer. The deal included $39.8 million guaranteed and would have made Miller the highest paid outside linebacker in the league. Miller is holding out for $20M-plus annually. The sides have just over a month to get something done. Source: James Palmer on Twitter Jun 8 - 5:06 PM

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, there is "now a possibility" Broncos franchise player Von Miller "could sit out the 2016 season entirely." Robinson reports Miller accepted the years and total money in the Broncos' six-year, $114.5 million offer, but "everything fell apart" when the sides weren't in the same ballpark on guarantees. Per Robinson, the "six-year" offer can be "dumped" after two seasons at $38.5 million guaranteed. Ndamukong Suh accepted less total money from the Dolphins, but landed $60 million in guarantees. The Giants guaranteed Olivier Vernon $52.5 million. The Broncos "shut down negotiations" when Miller refused, viewing it as "nothing less than a total rejection of terms." As Robinson tells it, the Broncos leaked the offered terms to the media on Wednesday, which might "seem to be an effort to put Miller in less-than-flattering light."

That guaranteed number seems real low. Didn't Suh and Justin Houston get 50+?

Is it just me or is $39.8 million in guaranteed money really low for a player of his caliber? Justin Houston, Ndamukong Suh and Marcell all received 50+ million in guaranteed money. I would say Miller deserves at least that much.

He's a damn good pass rusher and his play this past postseason probably won them the whole thing.

that being said, do you pay him 20mil+? That is QB money and the denver defense isn't made up of one guy but a team of guys that know their role and know how to do it REALLY well.

I mean they have the best triad of corners (talib-harris-roby), one of the best safety tandems, two very good situational pass rushers (ware/ray), some good linebackers in general, and a DL that constantly step up...the offense won't need to pay for a QB anytime soon, but it just seems worrisome when they still need to put forth an adequate OL and still pay some guys next year.

Just pro sports in general... These players hold the teams HOSTAGE and demand an unreal amount... ZERO athlete is worth what they are asking when it comes to contracts over the so called $100 million mark....

You should hit the street corners and panhandle for all the poor owners who are getting held hostage.

Ware is going to fall off here very soon and Ray is still pretty unproven. It's a ton of money to tie up in a non QB though for sure, but if they lose him after losing Jackson and Trevathan this past year that's a pretty huge talent exodus. The pass rushing specialist seems to be a huge piece of Wade's D

I'd probably let him walk before I'd pay him 20 mil. He's worth it probably, but I wouldn't want to hold up that much resources on one pass rusher.

Because they CAN... I don't have any sympathy for the owners.

The MARKET says OTHERWISE.........

But thanks for your completely unfounded opinion on what athletes are worth.

This might be a tough concept, but worth is determined by how much teams value them.

If someone is willing to pay the number, you're worth that number.
