re: ULL Softball Coach Lotief placed on administrative leave (11/1 update: he fired)

This story stinks from one side, and its confusing which one it is.
Administration says players complained about abuse.
Coach claims issues with title IV, and players seem to be standing behind him.
So if he was abusive, then they would be glad he's gone.
I would guess this is a little of both sides being idiotic. Its believeable that ULL admin is a joke. But it also seems like Lotief jumped ahead and made claims to gain support because he knew this was coming.

How much revenue does Hud's team bring the athletic dept? How much revenue does Lotief's team bring the athletic dept?
I’m pretty sure softball is more profitable than football at ULL.

Not as much as he used to. Also this kind of bleeds into Lotief's Title IX argument.

The hell I don't! He was a demoralizing piece of shite to many of the girls on that team. They didn't deserve what he put them through. Do you have a daughter? If so, maybe you would understand.

This can't be true.

Well profitable is probably a bad word. I’m sure they both lose money. Football has to lose a lot more money than softball.

It probably boils down to some truth from both sides. Lotief is a known hothead with the admins and likely players for years. Lotief felt like his program was neglected by the admins considering it the school's most competitive program on a national level. Admins probably got fed up with his complaining and used his known hothead behavior to get rid of him.

ULL keeps a massive roster by softball standards so it won't be hard to find some who don't even get to dress out that have an issue with him. Some probably think it's tough love, some don't.

The entire staff is scrubbed from the university website

Why did they get rid of all of the assistants? Did they just choose to go down with the captain?

It is crazy
And 29/31 players signed a letter supporting lotief
One that didn’t sign quit the team before this stuff happened and the other is connected to the investigation into lotief

All it takes is a couple; as someone said in one of these threads, most of the players probably thought of it as necessary tough love.
I can see how this blew up; coach complaining about lack of admin support (and claiming title IX violations - in this era of hyper title ix sensitivity, I can see how that would p.o. the administration)....and a few parents and players who probably did get yelled at and complained to the admin about it.
And then he holds his own press conference - I can see how the admin would tire of his act.
Still, admin has to do a better job of burying this stuff.

Some cajun fan on twitter wants ULL to hire Beth Torina

So here's my best guess at is, given what we know (if this quoted post is true).
- Lotief isn't a favorite of the ULL administration. He speaks his mind and can be a dick, but ULL admin can't get rid of their most successful coach just because he's an arse.
- Lotief is hard on his players, like 99.9999% of coaches are.
- One brat gets her feelings hurt, and tells daddy, who has money and some stroke. ULL admin hear from Daddy and the ball starts rolling.
- Lotief speaks to administration about the issue, and tells them to frick off.
- Formal complaint is made by girl, BC ULL admin wants a reason to fire him.
- Lotief knows shits about to hit the fan and puts his story out there first.
(None of this is facts...just my best guess, given the info we have).

After Lotief firing, UL softball players locked out of Lamson Park
Geez. What a cluster
quote:
It was the end of a rough day and night for members of the nationally ranked UL softball team that got even rougher when they returned to their locker room Wednesday only to find themselves locked out of Lamson Park, where they were trying to retrieve personal possessions.
quote:
After the firing, Cajun players met first with members of UL athletic administration at their offices and later attended a press conference at Lotief’s attorney’s office in which Lofief denied the charges.
When they returned to the locker room to gather the personal items they had left there, including backpacks containing materials needed for class Thursday, they found the access gate was padlocked.
Unable to get in for about an hour and unsure whom to contact, they eventually called the UL police department.
The police who responded could not help.
“So we’re just sitting out here waiting to get in and get our stuff,” sophomore pitcher Alyssa Denham said.
quote:
Nothing about what happened Wednesday, however, is normal.
Numerous Cajun players back Lotief, and Denham called his firing “very heartbreaking.”
“Having such a great person being taken out of not only my life but all of my friends’ lives – these are my sisters – it’s like losing a family member,” she said.
Denham said she had never witnessed any of the behavior Lotief is accused of, and said she has not decided if she’ll remain with the program or leave UL.
Geez. What a cluster

It was hilarious to hear Jay Walker take such a tough stance against Mike Lotief yesterday on the radio. Dude a-hole must be gaping after years of being used as a puppet.

yea this is totally false. The softball program might break even but football pays the bills. They also make money on baseball and a little on basketball.
