UCONN is a Tier 1 basketball program. People trying to argue this are just being dumb. All the Bama football/Kentucky basketball fans can go frick themselves.

Kansas actually has 57 conference titles. Just to add a little bit. No actual college basketball fans rank uconn ahead of Kansas yet, but they are closer than they should be because of kansas losing so many title games

The worst thing that ever happened to kansas for these discussions was losing a triple overtime game to unc 60 years ago.

Winning is all that matters. UConn wins. More than KU and UNC too

North Carolina has won 5 titles, so they're still ahead.

How big is your tier?

If your tier 1 = 1-4, probably not
If your tier 1 = 1-8, possibly
If your tier 1 = 1-12, probably

It is like football, as folks do the same thing. One person might consider only 1-6 as tier 1 football while others may go as broad as the Top 25. The more elite you are means more things your overall program must be successful at.

It's like considering the Knicks an elite NBA team

Historically they are upper echelon

Currently they are tier 3 or 4 college team.

I'd take yours, switch UNC and Kansas, and expand to 8 and add Louisville. I might switch UCLA and Ky too.

Same reason Notre Dame still outdraws most of college football. Hoosiers have a large and devoted basketball following who travel when they play. Uconn and Duke may win the recent NC's but like Miami in football, they have lousy fan support.

So national titles in a one and done crapshoot system is more important that all time history? Get out of here with that. There is more to the criteria of ranking all time programs than just national titles. National titles should carry a big weight in the criteria but it isn't the end all be all. All time winning percentage, number of times in the tournament, number of conference championships and number of final fours also have to be included.

4 is more than 5 now? I must have missed that memo.

Interesting when looking at schools with 5 appearances

Connecticut
Florida
Georgetown
Houston
Illinois
Michigan
Syracuse

Not an "elite" looking list

These schools have 6 Final Fours and nobody is saying they are elite
Arkansas
Cincinnati
Oklahoma State

Now look at the list of schools with 8 or more
Michigan State
Indiana
Ohio State
Louisville
Kansas
Duke
Kentucky
UCLA
North Carolina

The standard in every team sport is championships won (with the obvious exception of FBS football).
