how many get drafted early after getting kicked out of school for repeated positive results?

No fricking way anyone spends more than a 7th on him considering his legal problems and highly speculated drug problems.

janoris jenkins
you cut off the rest of that context
TM wasn't just kicked off the team for repeated positive tests - he then immediately got into trouble off the field again
If he shows up and runs a 4.4 40 at the combine then maybe he gets someone to take a chance on him in the early rounds but I don't see how anyone risks that much on him with his measurables and off the field history

The Bob Sanders comparison is a great one. Mathieu is a unique player who can play nickel, linebacker and rush the qb, cover the slot and play either of the safety positions due ot how physical he is. He is the best ballhawk that has ever lived in my opinion. The film don't lie. there are DCs across the league licking their chops to get this guy in. A guy like TM gives you a lot of flexibility in your schedmes.

You are right but still

I don't think so - only major similarity is their size

It's obvious where you stand. No 2 players situations are exactly the same. That he got arrested for simple possession shortly after getting kicked off the team is not nearly as big a deal as you are making it out to be. It's still the same issue, pot, which a lot of people, even in the NFL simply don't care about. He got kicked off the team because LSU has a strict drug testing policy that a lot of schools don't. There is not a universal standard regarding getting kicked off the team. Is it a mark against him, sure. But a death nail, hardly.

I agree. Ten years ago it might have been more difficult for him, but he is perfect for today's NFL where teams consistently have 3 or 4 WR's on the field. I don't think he lasts past the 3rd round.

I don't believe LSU's drug testing policy is all that strict. That's seems more like a rationalization fans use to justify why their players are better than players who do the same stuff at other schools - kids test positive and get suspended for drug violations pretty regularly all over the country.
What sets TM apart (aside from how excellent he is at football) is how many times he got into trouble for this when he had so much to lose. And again, even after getting kicked off the team he still got into trouble immediately after that.
The drugs may not be the issue. His maturity and decision making definitely are issues. When he knew he had two positive tests and could not afford to test positive again he still used again. That's an enormous error in judgement. After being kicked off the team he knew he needed to keep his nose clean for a while and then maybe he could re-enroll at LSU and maybe get drafted in the first round... but he didn't. Instead he and JJ got busted. That's a second enormous error in judgement right after the first one.
I loved TM as a player and I want him to stay out of trouble and succeed in the future but he has done his best to frick all of that up over the last four months.

Hope so, be nice for him if he were drafted in the middle rounds at this point
He was a phenomenal player for LSU who made incredible game-changing plays

There's some truth to that, but it is a fact that there is not a standardzied drug policy. It's up to the schools, there are some that are probably tougher than LSU's, but there are others that are not as tough.

This is where you are wrong and because you are an LSU fan and more aware of Mathieu's situation and putting too much emphasis on the timing perhaps in part because you are disappointed in him. It will hurt him, just not as much as you guys think. He will be drafted, just later than he would have been.
The point you are overlooking is there are numerous guys that have had much worse issues that have been forgiven and not all were Randy Moss type once in a lifetime freaks eitehr.
Mike Detillier was just saying J Jenkins tested postitive and admitted to socuts he smoked at North Alabama and he still went 39th. He's only 5'10" and he is not a 4.2 40 guy. You are putting too much emphasis on the arrest. It was simple possesion. A strike yes, but not a deal breaker. Do you really think when Kirkpatrick was arrested, that was the first time he tried the sticky icky? Come on, the difference is we know about Mathieu, the scouts knew already.

what was his point? if you lie about it you have even less credibility.

JJ was a three year starter at Florida before he got into trouble tho right? In his best games he shut down Julio Jones, AJ Green etc when he faced them. All of his measurables are better than TM's - height, speed, size
What do you think TM is going to run for a 40 when they time him honestly? JJ had the best combine of any corner - his 40 was somewhere between a 4.44 and a 4.46. TM won't do that - coming out of high school most big schools ignored him because he wasn't blazing fast and wasn't all that big
