He most likely will. I haven't read the statute regarding he possession of a stolen firearm, but I would think there would need to be mens rea attached to that which might be a bit tough to prove.
Unless he just offered the information that he stole the weapon or bought it because he knew it was stolen.

There is a defense that he didn't know it was stolen. This is also just the arresting charges. He could be billed with more. Specially, weapon in the presence of CDS which is an additional felony and doesn't matter if it's stolen.
