This play from our lovable loser Astros (circa 2012) comes to mind...

Perhaps I'm wrong. I may be thinking of a double play ball. I know if you are forced to move to the next base, such as from 1st to 2nd, you can't retreat back towards 1st.

Eh, that's not true either.

First baseman literally could’ve just sat down in the baseline and waited for the guy to come to first if he wanted to

He doesn’t even have to tag first and get a force out for the run not to count here. If the batter gets out before touching first the run would not count....

Or he also could’ve, you know, just touched first base

I wonder if that's an MLB record for longest time it takes to reach 1st base safely. I doubt they keep track of something like that but it's gotta be right?

El Mago hypnotized that mofo. It’s not the 1Bs fault. Could happen to any of us when playing with magic

It’s definitely not some high IQ play. Javy really didn’t know what was going on. But credit to him for keeping a play alive long enough for the pirates to have an all time brain fart.

No, not high IQ but he knew what was going on. The ball pulled the 1B up the line so his instincts kicked in and he stopped to force the tag. Where javy and the rest of the baseball world got lost was when he followed him. At any point all he had to do was turn around and touch first. Orrrrrrr KEEP CHASING HIM. He double fricked up when he saw Willy coming in. That meant nothing. Keep chasing javy lol. Looked like javy even got lost in the craziness of him throwing for a sec then he realized “I still gotta go to first...oh shite nobody is there”

Or, the catcher could have just tagged Javy instead of trying to tag Contreras. If Javy is out before he reaches first base the run doesn't count even if Contreras is back to the dugout.

It’s right next to tie goes to the runner, & it’s not an error if the fielder doesn’t touch it
