I'm not talking about his Chicago teams. And I would say David Robinson and Tim Duncan is a pretty fricking good duo

I'm not jumping through any hoops

People go off on how tim is by far the player of his generation only to turn around and say Phil had both shaq AND kobe!!!!!

And...3× NBA Finals MVP (1999, 2003, 2005)

And 2X ACC player of the year.

2× NBA Most Valuable Player (2002–2003)

Sounds great...but putting in perspective...

This was how great Kareem was...

6X NBA Most Valuable Player (more than Jordan)
6X NBA Champion (same as Jordan)
19 NBA All-Star (more than Jordan)
3X NCAA Champion (way more than Jordan)
NBA Rookie of the Year (same as Jordan)
3X Final Four Most Outstanding Player (not Jordan)
3X NCAA Player of the Year (more than Jordan)
High School National Champion (not Jordan)

Young Tim and old Robinson? Better than prime MJ/Pippen or prime Kobe/Shaq. Nope. And that's why you didn't state that in your response. Answer the question.

wait, tim was young in 2000/2001 but kobe wasnt?

Answer the question
do I think a duo of a young kobe and a prime Shaq is pretty equal to a prime David Robinson and a young tim Duncan who basically everyone thinks is the player of his generation? Yes

Eta: David was old. He wasn't in his prime like prime shaq was. I'll give you that. Still really doesn't change anything

Changed errthang. We're talking about a former scoring title winner unable to carry the offensive load like he'd done for a decade.

Best player in modern basketball?

Top 3 in modern with MJ and Kareem. Bill Russell is the GOAT.

Am I the only person who believes Pat Riley was a better coach and basketball mind than Gregg Popovich? It's hard not to be incredibly impressed with the way he adapted his coaching style from the Showtime Lakers to coaching one of the stingiest defensive teams ever with the Knicks as well as how he built the expansion Miami Heat from the ground up. He could coach any team using any style exceedingly well.
