Winning 11 games in the Big 12 is more impressive than 11 games in the SEC. Totally.

Depends on the schedule but usually this is correct.

I worded that bad.

He was being sarcastic and I was agreeing with his line of thinking, not the sarcastic post

USUALLY 11 SEC wins > 11 B12 wins. Usually.

I agree with the OP's general sentiment in that who you beat should be more important than who you lose to.

I'd take an 11-1 team with 4 wins over top 25 teams and a loss to an unranked team over an 11-1 team with 1 win over top 25 teams but their loss was to a top 25 team.

No different from the "well we're undefeated in regulation" talk in 07.

Yeah, but that year was a cluster frick. We still won our division/conference and beat several really really good teams. Also, you couldn't really make a legit case for anyone else to play Ohio State that year.

Right. Because the SEC was worse.

Oh no doubt. In that scenario it shouldn't even be close. You wanna be the best you gotta beat the best...not lose to them.

I don't justify a damn thing. Alabama won crystal in 11 after one loss season. LSU won in 07 with 2. IS the 07 any less a MNC than 11?

Frankly I don't care. LSU fans and few NtY wackos are the only ones still crying.

2011 Bama goes 1-1 against quality teams and loses their division, but the "quality loss" and "eyeball test" arguments get them into a national title game (along with being a college football blueblood/media darling) when they weren't the best team of 6 over a 12 game sample size.

Meanwhile a conference champion with a better resume gets left out because their double overtime loss was worse.

Pretty sure that's the OP's rationale, and it makes perfect sense to anyone without a script A next to their username.

I would judge it based on who they each beat. If team A lost to App State but beat a top 10 team during the season, but Team B lost to Bama and didn't have any marquee wins, then Team A would deserve it more.

It's amazing that Bama fans wonder why everyone hates them.

They like to pretend it is because they win, but it just isn't.

see if this makes sense... there's no such thing as a quality loss if you're a BCSNC contending team. you shouldn't lose. Period.

but some losses are more quality than others. I mean Alabama lost the Iron Bowl, but it's hard to even think of it as a loss, bc it took so much to beat them

Perhaps, there are no "good" or "quality" losses.

But there are "bad" losses.

I think it does matter who you lose to. It's dumb to say otherwise. 2011 Bama just acted like their loss was a great achievement and trumped other considerations like wins and schedule strength.
