There has to be a way to reward a batter for making good contact on the ball. There also has to be a way to punish a pitcher who makes a bad pitch.

you make a great point, but need to learn to use "Duel" correctly.

Every team plays with the same stuff though
If the NFL went to wiffle balls which ruled out any passes longer than 10 yards, your statement would be true but no one would watch the game.

should UCLA get an asterisk next to their name since it wasn't fair to all the teams that played in Omaha? Maybe in parentheses after their name we can put "but LSU was the best team!"

Yes but not when the "duel" consist of the strategy of throwing belt high BP fastballs for flyball outs.

No real changes coming according to Damani Leech, the NCAA's director of championships & alliances. "We only had 3 HR's yet we've had the highest average attendance in the history of the CWS." According to an article in the N.O.Times Picayune, Leech said" the offensive issues at the CWS coincide with the drop in offense throughout college baseball since the dialed back metal bats were put into play in 2011. Researches from Washington St. representatives of Rawlings Sporting Goods & American Baseball Coaches Association executive director Dave Keilitz met with NCAA officials Tuesday to discuss possible changes to the ball. Leech said the consesus is there will be no changes in the core of the ball, but they did discuss the possibilty of switching from the raised-seam ball to the flat seam ball used in professional baseball. No change in the ball will take place till 2015". Note that no HC were involved in the discussion, tho, presumably the coaches' association director provided coaches imput.

Nope...UCLA is. And I'm a homer.

All they need to do is see that the outfielders are playing at a depth that they haven't played at since they graduated from JV baseball. Seriously, look at where the outfielders are playing.
This is a good point. And it shows that this is not only about home runs. A big park wouldn't be a problem if a well struck ball ended up as a double. However, in an unfriendly park balls that are crushed hang up and are easy outs.

This.
It's not great pitching. It's shitty hitting brought about (in part) by the conditions. The difference is subtle and nuanced and may escape the casual fan. But it's there.

Maybe he should look at the composition of the participating teams this year, that helps explain attendance, not that it was an exciting series. Couple more years of 2013 style of play in TDA and he will look back and recognize how poorly he evaluated the state of the game in that park. Don't know what the viewer ratings were for the championship series, but it couldn't have been great. Not sour grapes, UCLA earned the title, and I don't want a return to 14-8 style games, either.

That's similar to the logic behind keeping Toonces for this long. frick that guy.

My arguement can be summed up in one word........... "Chicks dig the long ball".
No HR's, No Chicks (even the well breasted UCLA chick they kept showing will eventually get tired of little bunts and dinks)
With no chicks, players will go to pro baseball, college baseball is ruined.

Love it! Great analogy. There were some GREAT hitting teams in the CWS this year, but it turned into a pop-fly fest with the real power hitting teams leaving early. I couldn't watch it... I got so bored I was constantly finding other things to do.

I attended the CWS this year in the hopes that LSU would win it all. I was definitely disappointed that they couldn't at least win one game, but what was more disappointing was the games themselves.
I'm not talking about winning or losing. I'm talking about how boring the game is when there are only a few runs scored. We don't need to get back to Gorilla ball, but something needs to be done to make the game more exciting.

I understand the NCAA needed to change the bats, they just went to far in trying to make them like a wooden bat. They achieved their goal. The problem: the guys using those new bats are not major league players. Some will be in the future, but MOST are not so why make them play with a neutered bat?

What's wrong with 14-8 games? I loved gorilla ball and high-scoring games.

Leech misses the point altogether. How many fans of teams not in the CWS showed up? The great majority of fans were there to support their teams, NOT solely to watch ball games. What would have happened had all eight teams been from small colleges or universities and didn't have the fan support/base that teams like LSU, UNC, et al. have? The crowd as a barometer is not necessarily the best measure. Most of us who watched the CWS would have asked for our money back had the CWS had a money-back guarantee. Last night (Final Game), I was a casual observer, just occasionally checking on the game--knowing one at bat isn't going to make a significant difference diminished my attention, and could affect viewer ratings of lots of others. I thought the announcers were somewhere near outstanding--something reversed from the CWS in the past--the games several years ago had far more pizzazz than the announcers. Last night (and several before that), the announcers by far were better than the games--and I am saying games. I also knew that, with the restrictions of the field, there was no way outside of football that MSU was going to score 8 runs in an inning.
