There's a lot of stuff written out there on why going for it is the correct move in that situation, but this is a shining example. You score and the game is sealed. You fail and Dallas has to go 99 yards. The FG had marginal value there.

If they go for it and fail, Dallas only need a FG.

That's why you run the ball on third down.

I agree. TD ends it. If you fail, 99 yards to go up three isn't much worse than 75-80 yards to go down six.

How about you just run the damn ball on 3rd down and maybe score that way. If not you still get to run 40 seconds off the clock.

And if you decide to pass, at least fall down instead of throwing it out of bounds. Just dumb

So what? They run it twice from the 2 or whatever. If you don't get it, they have like 40 seconds or whatever to go like 65 yards with no time outs.

To be fair, they'd probably settle for a FG if they're down 3, so they'd only need to go 80 yards and not the full 99

Dallas would have to have gone about 60 yards

You just can't kill the clock, absolutely terrible. Romo doesn't score with 40 less seconds

I am an idiot, definitely agree with you. But don't listen to me. Listen to Brian Burke, a statistician ESPN just hired this year. He's got a nice little blog post that discusses it: LINK

When they had the clock issue with 4:20 left, the Giants snapped the ball with 17 seconds left on the play clock on the following play with a three point lead. On the next play, they snapped with 6 seconds left.

Coughlin and Co. fricked up so badly in their clock management during the final five minutes, not just on the 3rd and goal.

Yup, nothing was wrong with the pass play. Eli should have went down.

Dallas needed a fg to tie, not win. They would need 99 to straight up win. Just as important, the kickoff made it 70 to win after the fg which is the same distance Dallas would have needed to get into fg range starting from their 1

They lost the game on this play, when Beckham runs to endzone (even he knows with his time at LSU fricking run off some time, & we got this) and the Ref. keeps wanting the clocks to start.

The ref. smiling was implying to Eli, Don't frick this up I'm giving u an automatic 40 second runoff. What do does this fricker do, talk to his center for about 10-12 second and snaps the fricking ball with 17 seconds left on clock.

this play with the 3rd down debacable killed them

To think Les miles get so much grief.

Every answer that includes the fact that there would be an additional 40 seconds run off is the correct one.
