I think he actually made it worse.

Do you think he'll eat for free everywhere in Austin if it's up to him?

Love it when Texas, a school where all their fans do is sit on their moral high horse, is full of morality.

I think it's a whole different set of issues honestly. Pretty sure the donor base and fan base in general just hates his arse

This is 100% it. I live here, and everyone hated him for raising ticket prices, cutting free tickets for faculty, and started charging coaches for meals in the lounge. Charlie Strong and Shaka Smart are fine, this isnt about them. If anything they wanted him gone too.

Texas fans probably think they're going to get Robert Kraft to be AD

Is this just people taking it out on him because they can't fire Charlie yet?
Don't be too shocked if this happens sooner rather than later.

This thread has gone on far too long without the obvious -

Strong gets fired by an interim AD. Mack is hired as AD. Saban to Texas.

What? Can Patterson not block, catch, run, tackle, or pass?

Is a great AD, but too much of his own person, hard headed, and big of a personality to deal with those boosters IMO.

Ross Bjork is what they need. They need an alpha personality to come in there and correct things. He is upwardly ambitious and would do really well at UT.

I would bet that they hire him, and he fires Strong at year's end and goes after Chip Kelly (if he struggles with the Eagles this year...which he will because he does not have a QB).

Jeff Long will probably be their number 1 target for AD. Would be interesting to see if he would go after Bobby.

Patterson's fatal mistake was pissing off the Big Money Donors such as Joe Jamail and Red McCombs. When you make both the little guys (the fans) and the big guys mad, you're gone.

I would actually think being the AD at a school like Iowa is much easier. If your football team is 8-4 and your basketball team is in the running for the tourney, you are having a great year

LOL, holy crap. Hawkeye fans want Gary Barta fired yesterday and that is about the exact position Iowa is in right now.

8-4 in football is not good enough at Iowa, whether you agree with that or not, it is not good enough. You can schedule yourself to 6 wins, going 2-4 in the toss-up games isn't getting it done. Programs like Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska over in the BT West expect to contend for the West division every year. Well, maybe I shouldn't throw Minnesota into the mix, they're just happy to get menitoned. And maybe not Nebraska either. That delusional fanbase believes they can still contend for National Titles every single year.

I think Mack would make a good AD there at Texas. The AD is the money man. Seems Mack would fit into the good old boy network quite well. He just needs to be smart enough to hire good assitant AD's to handle the details of the program and give him good advice. And smart enough to make a good hiring choice, non-controversial, that will get results when they go about hiring any new coaches.

Big money guys don't like spineless wimps they can push around. They like gladhanding with their peers, people they respect that will listen to them, call them a friend and make them feel important. That fits Mack's persona to a T.

If Mack had been "kicked upstairs" by making him AD while naming a new coach, then this could have worked. To bring him in now, with a new coach that replaced him when he was fired, would make a bad situation even more unstable. Plus, he has already stated in the past that the paperwork of the AD's job would bore him.

Anyway, Mack is past his "Best Buy Date".

I've heard they are going to try to bring in Chip Kelly and make him the highest paid football coach period after this AD hire is made and they get rid of Strong.
