Let's hope it didn't resemble anything remotely close to the McCallum injury. That was awful.

From Adam Schefter:

Sources: #Vikings Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was taken to the hospital shortly after practiced and I'm hearing it's a compound fracture.

I find it absolutely insane that he suffered a compound fracture from a non-contact injury

Really, really not trying to be a dick, but maybe football isn't the right sport for you?

What I'm saying is that I am also getting tired of seeing promising young players tear their ACL etc and miss like a whole year.

It sucks.

Doesn't seem to happen as much in soccer, for example. Basketball, too.

And anecdotally, it seems to happen more and more in football. (And not just talking about ACLs)

I was really hoping he would have a great season. He is a heck of a player and a better person

It happens. Tyler Prothro and the USM wr a few years ago jumped and had compound fractures on landing. I wouldn't be surprised if he had an unknown osteochondroma or similar issue that was stressed at just the right angle to make it break

he had his force coming down along with the force of another player. i wouldn't necessarily call it a non-contact injury. the USM receiver ran into a trailer behind the endzone, breaking his leg, and then broke the same leg again iirc. he also was running full speed, got his cleat caught in the turf, and his leg snapped

here's a link to prothro, although some may not want to watch it understandably LINK

Like someone else said, there were other factors at play in these injuries, in addition to the Louisville player who jumped up a lot higher than a quarterback like Bridgewater ever will or should be doing in practice.

What kind of strenuous activities is a quarterback doing in non-contact activities to possibly trigger that kind of injury? I honestly have no clue.

Vikings' HC Mike Zimmer said QB Teddy Bridgewater "a significant knee injury." Still going through testing.

As bad as Prothro's was, this sounds much worse, no?

Didn't Freddie Mitchell suffer a similar injury years ago while at UCLA? If it is a compound fracture and happened to the tibia or fibula it's arguably much better than a ligament tear. Bones heal fast and can heal stronger then before ( Wolff's Law), knee ligament repairs have come a long way but the knee is never the same structurally no matter how successful the surgery is. And of course much will depend on any soft tissue damage incurred as a result of the compound fracture.

if he did break a bone i'm sure he had to have a jrue holliday-level stress fracure history that he just never really had looked at. it's possible the structure was just fricked and it was a ticking time bomb that nobody really knew about

I was just about to say that:
quote:

Jay Glazer ?@JayGlazer 2m2 minutes ago Teddy was extremely well liked and respected by teammates and coaches. Teammates distraught by this

The only thing I can think of is that this is a Shaun Livingston type of knee injury that could be career ending for a football player, but I just don't know how that could happen for a QB in a non contact drill. But this is being talked about as much worse than any torn ACL I've ever seen, so who knows?

Jay Glazer is getting Bridgewater confused with Gene Wilder

For players to react the way they did, either a bone had to be sticking out, or his leg was turned the wrong way and bent.

I understand the the significance of losing your starting QB to something like this. And I realize how well liked the guy is. Nobody wants to see something like this happen. But I don't understand the reaction.

If I didn't know the name of the player or injury...I'd swear Tom Brady just violently broke his neck.

I don't mean to be insensitive.
