That it is. 1983 was the first NCAA Tourney I really kept up with. I also liked Valvano and NC State and began following them during the season. I can still remember where I was when Charles made the shot, and Coach V couldn't find anyone to hug. Good times.

And 2 years later Nova did the same thing. Which is the bigger upset?

I thought it was pretty boring, to be honest.

I care plenty about history. I just found the documentary boring. Didn't care to watch a group of guys talking about their glory days.

I get tired of it being played over and over.

I think the best one they've done is the Big East one. To me that was more informative and better.

It's a great story but it isn't in the same filmmaking stratosphere of The Two Escobars, for example. It's mostly a bunch of guys telling stories mixed with game footage. Not as much sociological analysis or expert contribution. It's just a "Remember when they made this amazing run? That was cool" documentary. Plus (and I'm a big Valvano fan and 83 NC State is my favorite all-time team), Valvano had some shadiness and they kinda just glossed over that because of their coziness with the V Foundation.

They dug a little into his shadiness and blamed speaking engagements on not helping chris Washburn

I liked Pony Excess and The Two Escobars more, but this one was great.

It's good pulp documentary filmmaking. You have an improbable story, lovable protagonists, larger-than-life villains, numerous obstacles. The story draws you in as the odds become larger and everybody's happy in the end because the good guys win. But there's nothing beneath the surface but a good story.

Even with some of the questionable documentaries like Fab 5 and The U, you have anti-heroes who don't necessarily win and the stories are a microcosm of the larger culture.

Beat me to it, those are my favorites, too.
