"Least impressive record in sports history."

I'll take the bait.
688 career IBBs is the least impressive record in sports history.
1- It's a walk.
So the discussion goes, all the pitchers were scared, or he was the HR leader. But we all knew he was on roids, and so did the pitchers, and those walks show it.
2- It's still just a walk. How this is deemed to the the GOAT stat record?
3 - You don't have a valid mathematical comparison for that statistic. They didn't always specify intentional in the old days. How many of Ruth's were intentional? We'll never know. We do know that Ruth had about 600 more walks than Aaron. Barroid* is the career walks leader, but if we had complete information it's unlikely that his margin for IBB is as big as this study says.

No kidding, the record was considered unbreakable before Cal broke it.

Nope. I'll take Cal Ripkins 2k streak over a hr contest as a more impressive record
Should have an asterisk
They canceled a game due to "electrical failure" when cal found Kevin Costner banging his wife

wilt's 100 pt game is neat, but does anyone really think it's all that given how few teams there were and his relative size advantage? ...
Size advantage? When was the last time someone said Shaq wasn't all that because he was just bigger than everyone else? Surely it was a different era so it's tough to make direct comparisons, but 100 pts in a game is ridiculous. If it wasn't that big of a deal then why didn't someone else come closer than 30 pts away during that era? Hell only 3 people have ever come within 30 pts of him in the history of the NBA. You can't just blow off players from different eras because "there were fewer teams". Was it the same as today? No. Was it a historical feat? frick yes it was.

List is a joke without at least one Tiger Woods record. 142 straight cuts made might be the greatest record in sports history.
His winning percentage is impressive. He's at like 24%, next closest guy is at 8%.

Kobe's 81 >>> Wilt's 100
Given Kobe wasn't four feet taller than everyone guarding him and Kobe did it from the perimeter.

Surprised Cal Ripken was not even mentioned
I used to be all about his record until I learned he only had to start and play 4 innings to get credit. That makes it not so impressive anymore.

UCLA won 7 straight NCAA titles in college basketball. That will never be matched or topped.

They are both damned impressive performances, and maybe even Kobe's 81 is a better shooting performance when you look at the difficulty of the shots. But please quit with the "wilt was good because he was tall" bullshite. Wilt was a fricking monster for a decade, and it was because he was a better athlete than damn near everyone in the NBA, all while being 7-1. He was just better than everyone else.

It really isn't. It's incredible but hardly unbelievable. He's simply the best home run hitter of all time but he is not some absurd outlier. ARod could slug them as well.
It isn't absurd to think a bigger, stronger dude could come along in the next 50 years and easily smash that. People surely thought nobody would ever match the absurd and downright freakish combination of size and athleticism that Wilt had. Then Shaq was born. Even with steroids, Barry isn't an outrageous outlier of human ability. Great 220+ pound hitters come around every generation. One will probably come around who is so strong that his pop flies are home funs. Maybe more so than Barry. And people will walk him because walks aren't that harmful vs a high chance of a HR.

It probably will get broken soon, but it's pretty damn impressive that this record was set 65 years ago, in an era where an average passing game was about 163 yards.
True. But also greater variance in defense. Today, we have a situation where a 400 yard passing game against the worst defense in the league is roughly equivalent to a 300 yard passing game against the best defense in the league. Because of the parity being very close relative to past generations.
I'm sure back then you had outmatched players such that if a 20 yard pass worked once, it worked every time. The defense he was playing was probably awful. And I don't mean awful as in the 2016 Saints defense filled with players who were good enough to overcome the competition and get drafted for 10+ million dollar careers is awful.

hypothetically, yes it would still be very impressive. but realistically, if someone had a 57 game hit streak, they would not only be getting 1 hit in those 57 games
From the start to the finish of DiMaggio's streak, Ted Williams during that same period had a better batting avg, more Homeruns & RBIs than Joe D.
That year Williams batted .406, and led the league in Homeruns, runs scored, walks, on base %, & slugging. He finished the season with 10 more homeruns than strikeouts!
He didn't win the MVP.
So the following year he led the AL in average, homeruns, RBIs, total bases, runs, walks, slugging %, & on base %. He still didn't win the MVP
Then he spent the next three years flying combat missions.
First year back after the war he wins the MVP.
The following year he wins his 2nd triple crown & again he wasn't named the MVP.

Pistol Pete's career scoring avg topping 44 per game will never be touched and he did it for three years.
Much like the Cy Young points made in this string it is a performance record that the current game will not allow to be broken. Further if anyone came close to the one year record, they would go pro making the total career points record untouchable.
I'd add Tiger Woods win percentage to same category. His accomplishment changed interest in game making it more competitive and untouchable.

Let's talk about how awesome Barry Bonds was.
Let's talk more about his 688 career intentional walks.
Albert Pujols and Hank Aaron are 2nd and 3rd on the all-time career list.
If you combined Aaron and Pujols' career totals, they would still be 95 intentional walks short of Bonds total
