I don't know if it was official when you posted this, but here's Moz saying Reyes will need tommy john.

Hahaha..... wow.....

If not for bad luck, the cards would have no luck at all as of late

Wacha (maybe Rosey but I'm skeptical)

Wait, what? Rosenthal is vying for a starter role?

Ya I don't expect it to pan out. He'll be back in the bullpen before spring training is over.

I expect that we'll see the MLB debut of Austin Gomber at some point this season. If Sandy Alacantara does well at AA, we may see him get a spot start somewhere, depending on if they think he can contribute in the next couple years and are comfortable starting his service time and burning his options.

I think people forget Rosenthal was drafted in the 21st round as a starting pitcher and was a Minor League All Star starting pitcher early in his career.

2012 he was named the #1 starting pitching prospect in the Texas League.

It's not crazy to give him a chance, he has always said he wants to be a starter.

ETA: with our pitching "depth" and draft pick situation I'll be pretty surprised if they make a deal for a significant starter

Wanted to touch on this as well, you generally don't trade draft picks so that will have little to no effect on acquiring a top 3 rotation starter. The reason the Cardinals were linked to many high profile SP trades all offseason was because we have a good chunk of high value prospects to put a deal together, this also has not changed.

We may not trade for a #1 alongside CMart like previously linked to Chris Sale or something, but they will almost 100% trade for a Top 3 starter around the trade deadline if Waino continues to decline, or if Leake continues to blow, or if Wacha's shoulder finally explodes (unless we are so far out at the deadline we sell).

Not saying he can't do it, just wasn't expecting that.

Weird thinking back about Waino being our closer in the '06 playoffs

I mean the guy hasn't started in 4 seasons and has serious control issues as well as 2 dependable pitches...it probably won't work out.

But I don't mind letting him get his shot just because he was at one point a top tier starting pitching prospect.

He is a 4 pitch pitcher as well. Typically relievers dont have that many in their arsenal. He has the tools to be a successful starter for sure

I don't really know wth they expect, the guy can't throw strikes and it's been an issue his entire career except maybe when he first came up

Geaux Cards! Lifelong fan but I dont keep up with them as much as I used to. When Pujols bailed, I lost interest in the daily grind that is Major League Baseball.

Toad,

Alcantara is the guy who is in High A may be in SGF this season?

Flaherty is the guy you and I disagree on if he is that high of prospect

Who was the third guy we discussed? Just so I can start seeing who they are running out there during ST games or actually trying to groom for Memphis St Louis.

Yes.

Flaherty is solid, just not in the same realm of the fireballers, he's more of a Weaver type.

Was it Weaver?
