Holy Cross drives down to about the Aug 10 and kicks a tying field goal with 4 seconds left, but Crutchfield called timeout beforehand to ice the kicker...

so HC goes for the game winning touchdown and doesn't get it...

WOW, made the game tying field goal, negated by time out, so you decide to go for TD from the 12??

No idea what possible explanation for this could be.

and meanwhile before that St. Aug almost cost themselves the game by going for 2 up by 3 bc i'm assuming they couldn't depend on their kicker

what a shocker that Crutchfield didn't make the most shocking decision of the night... also the HC soccer coach needs to be fired i've seen too many great kickers at all the Catholic League schools for HC to not have one they can depend on for a 30 yard field goal

That's a chickenshit move that should be illegal especially in high school ball.

it boils down to does Barry Wilson think his team has a better chance to win in OT or from 1 play from the 12?

Maybe. I think he would be wrong to think that. Aug couldnt stop them either and had little faith in their own kicker.

But if you want to go for it, go for it. Why send the kid out to kick in the first place. He makes the kick, nullified by the timeout, then he decides to go for it?
What thought process produced this?

He'll of a game by both teams, might be a state championship preview. HC was without starting kicker, and the field goal landed just short on the attempt prior to the timeout, Wilson gambled and lost on an incompletion in end zone

So far everyone has said the kick was good at the timeout. I thought they were working with a backup kicker. If the kick was missed badly, or was short on a 30 yard attempt I can see reason to change decision and go for it.

Classic game nontheless.

Man, I was receiving texts the entire game... Heard HC played zone and it frustrated Toi at times forcing him to throw a couple of INTs... Fumbled the ball as well, AGAIN!!!!!!!!! Good gameplan by those Tigers... Hopefully I'll get to see the rematch in the post season...
