Some youths in this thread make me feel old. I am pretty sure some of the people mentioned are still playing.

Mine are Michael Jordan and Jerry Rice

LaDainian Tomlinson?

There is only one LT and he had the name first - Lawrence Taylor.

Griffey Jr, and Ripken.

Wrote them both letters when I was like 9. When I got autographed replies, my heartless, cold-blooded older sister says "you know that's just some canned fan club bullshite, he didn't really sign it."

Was born in 79.

In little league when I pitched, I wanted to be like Orel Hershiser. Then around 1990 I just wanted to be #16 and do everything like Bo Jackson.

In Basketball of course it was Jordan.

In football it was Lawrence Taylor when I was like 7-10....but I always imagined I'd be like a Lawrence Taylor playing for Dallas. Offensively I loved Emmitt Smith and Jay Novacek. Mostly though, as far as individual players went, I just loved pretending I was a very impactful defensive player. From Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson, Deion, Junior Seau to Charles Haley and Ken Norton Jr...but I never felt krunker than when I was pretending I was Steve Atwater. The Smiling Assassin

ETA: for example, like when you were pushing yourself to the brink in a workout, or trying to sprint that last lap around a track, I'd be pretending I was laying someone out in a bleak, desperate situation and forcing a fumble with a kill shot or making a circus catch interception and taking it back to the house (as myself, but looking like Steve Atwater)...it would make my blood boil.
