Since there's really only 2 games worth a damn, for revenue's sake wouldn't it make sense to have them at separate times? Like it seems ABC and ESPN wouldnt' want the Michigan and OSU games both at 3:30 since it'd draw viewers away from each one.

I know we're talking about the OSU/MSU game, but looking at teh Michigan game...is it really likely that they'd be relegated to noon?

That would make the most sense, but ESPN/ABC doesn't think logically sometimes. They're trying to capitalize on getting the most viewers for each game. Most people are going to be watching after 3:30 so if they put the two biggest games on then, they're going to get more casual viewers for both games than if they put one at 12.

This doesn't consider the hard-core viewer, which nationally, there aren't that many.

ESPN does this all the time. Week 3, they're putting USC-Stanford at the same time as Alabama-Ole Miss. Morning games suck (Illinois at North Carolina best matchup)

You might find Mirror Lake cool. It's where the Michigan Week student jump happens. Also Thompson library was renovated a few years ago and is pretty neat.

Plan for 30 minutes. Could be 20.

Just get your taxi to bring you to our tailgate. Architectural Building on Woody Hayes Drive. We'll have plenty of food and alcohol. I'll give you my cell number via email.

I've been researching.

Assuming the game is at 3:30 now I don't see any way to make a saturday flight. I'm going to have to skimp on the lodging costs and fly up friday night. BUT, at least that will give me time to get some rest and have a full day experience. Plus, it takes the guesswork out of gametime since it won't matter bc I'll be there.

Probably best all the way around. Also the place I'm looking at staying now said they'll pick me up from the airport for $20, which is probably cheaper than a cab would be. I'm (potentially) staying 1.5 miles E/NE of the stadium.

3:30 ABC?

Damn I really wanted a night game.

I understand the sentiment, especially from someone used to Southern climate, but really, fall afternoons are a big part of what makes football a great event in the Midwest. There may be irritation involved, but you're likely to enjoy the hell out of 3:30 (and probably even noon if that happens).

In any event, thanks for wanting to make this trip; barring a huge surprise, that's guaranteed to be a great matchup. Have fun.

We're reasonably sure there won't be any night games. So those 6 games have to go somewhere. 1 will go on 3:30 ABC. Another will go at noon on ABC. 2 will go to the BTN (early slot/middle slot). What about the other 2?

I and the other 3 fans can catch Purdue - Iowa on ESPN3. Or local access.

Varsity Club is very close to the stadium and is also guaranteed to be packed.

As someone who had visited every B1G stadium before we expanded to include NU, Maryland, and Rutgers, I feel like I can say that you picked a great venue to visit and obviously what could be the game of the year in the conference.

The stadium is gorgeous. I loved it. Fans weren't bad. Maybe because we a) were also wearing red or b) weren't Michigan. Hineygate was a cool scene, but I think that's closed now? We won the game I went to and some OSU fan bought me a beer, saying he was paying forward the same gesture from a UW fan in Madison.

All in all a very cool experience.

I think there is a chance the game is on at night. Last year's Michigan State and Ohio Stage game was a night game and it could always be added as a night game.

I doubt it will be a noon game given that Michigan State and Ohio State are expected to decide the big ten east that game.

The Big Ten has added night games to the schedule during season. But I highly doubt it will be a noon game.

Seriously why don't you book a Friday evening flight? Then you don't have to worry about starting time and maybe you can hang out in some bars on a Friday.

Didn't realize the OP was coming in on Saturday. WTF? Half the fun of a big game weekend is going out the night before and getting a feel for the scene and atmosphere.

Absolutely come in Friday.

I've already got my ticket, which was my biggest question mark so that's a relief. I found a nice little place 1.5 miles from the stadium that's about $70 total for 2 nights, so no worries there doing 2 nights compared to 1. All I really need to commit to now is getting a flight..but that's the scariest part of the whole thing because that's the only thing that's non-refundable. Once I get a flight..I'm pretty much fully committed at that point

THE OSU is a 16 point favorite over MSU.

Why not see a good game?

Is your reference point Crew Stadium (Mapfre) or Ohio Stadium? The former isn't near anything. I would say that Ohio Stadium's distance to the bars felt comparable to Neyland; those are the only two I feel confident speaking about.

The only other major stadiums that I've been to--The Big House and Camp Randall--seemed comparable as well; although those were each from a single experience years ago.

I've been super super spoiled because of Athens, where the bars are separated from campus by about 50 feet of concrete. I looked up the foreign sounding bar the guy mentioned earlier (can't recall the name and don't feel like opening separate window to look) and it's like 1 mile from the stadium. Problem is it's about a 1.5 mile walk from my stay to the stadium (a tad bit farther to the tailgate), then another mile and a half to the bar...after that no way I'm walking back home

Good thing columbus has uber

95% of the bars are off High St. High St essentially runs north to south parallel to Ohio State's east side of campus (there are literally class buildings right across the street). The problem is the stadium is on the west side of campus (or middle if you talk to an Ag student).

The bar I mentioned, Bier Stube, is off High St but is the furthest south of all good campus bars. I lived on the southeast side of campus from my sophomore year on so it was a frequent bar for me. I always felt like it's the one campus bar that doesn't get a bunch of obnoxious college students. It's basically a good ole dive bar.

I haven't lived in Columbus since I graduated since 2008. I'm moving back (unexpected job offer) in a few weeks so I had to quickly do some apartment searching this past week.

Now maybe I was just unaware at the time and this has always been the case, but I was surprised how built up everything was from between south campus (Gatewayish) to Short North. Maybe it's the brand new Kroger, but I always thought there was a somewhat rougher stretch for a few blocks.

Anyways, I'm sad to be leaving my current locations (Nashville), but Columbus really is an underrated city.
